Hello everyone!
Coming up against a VERY FRUSTRATING situation
ALL of the sits in Miami say REVIEWING
Sits that were posted less than an hour again and sits that don’t take place until October!!!
That’s impossible.
The below sit is PERFECT as I am in Miami for Summer and adore Cocker Spaniels and it’s a 30 day sit!
I have emailed SUPPORT several times
NO ANSWER
How do I reach out to previous sitters so that can reach out to HO perhaps
(Post edited by the Forum team to remove another members listing link and image as per the Community Guidelines).
You can’t reach out to other sitters. I don’t understand what you want from support. The host is already reviewing. Did you want THS to tell them you are interested. It doesn’t work that way. I have been looking in Florida almost daily for the last three weeks and have seen many sits in Miami not in review. Maybe check more often. You can favor their sit and maybe they will reach out to you if their sitter cancels.
A few sits in preferred locations can fill up with 5 applicants within minutes if they’re in many sitters’ searches. It’s worth calculating when HOs are most likely to post a listing eg after work or on Sundays. Just a thought.
Great advice
The 5 applicant rule doesn’t seem useful for
HO and Sitter
So the HO only has a choice of random 5 applicants when a better fit may be available
So, it’s just a timing issue verses a better fit
Seems odd that sits in October have REVIEWING
That is why I thought there was a possible glitch
In fact, just spoke to a HO in Miami who was having issues with the app that just confirmed my thoughts of a glitch
Thanks for your reply Bonny!
Hosts can decline any of the 5 at any time, opening up for more applicants to apply. If they check and see two applicants applied who they would never choose they can then decline them on the spot and two more can apply. Once it gets to 5 they go into review. So the five left are ones they are considering. So in essence they can see 30 or more applicants till they reach 5 they are satisfied with. Although if they don’t act quickly some of the good ones will no longer be interested.
I’m not sure you can call them ‘random’ applications if they’ve got a location as a saved search and have moved fast to apply. Also there’s no way of telling if you’d be a better match or not…. the point is a sitter needs to simply be ‘good enough’ for the needs of the HO.
It’s worth tracking back later to see who got the sit and look at their past Reviews, it might give you an idea of your particular niche competition.
I think there is a glitch. Couple of sits I applied for months ago, then changed my mind and withdrew, still say reviewing, I can’t believe HO would keep sitters waiting for months before choosing - it just wouldn’t work.
It seems you missed out on the opportunity to get a house sit. Don’t worry, there will be more, so keep an eye out and whenever you spot something, apply as quickly as possible with a pre-written message. Afterwards, follow up with a more detailed, personalized message so the house owner knows you are serious. Hope that helps, and good luck.
Exactly!
Thats the method for sure!
But I am noticing glitches
I had a verbal confirmed sit
( we are both in travel business so we had lots in common and have kept in touch )
Her neighbor is doing it now…no worries
But it shows as REVIEWING…two months later.
I have told her her posting still shows and she swears that she closed the posting
Thanks for the reply mate
Always good to have your sensible perspective
I am surprised at how homeowners “forget”
About the listing of care of their animals
Had another HO say 100% they want to chat
Farm sit with dog horses etc…my typical sit
And now radio silence after two months…

So send a reminder once a week and the sit is still posted as REVIEWING.
Mind you, I travel full time and pet sit full time so I imagine I apply for 5X the sits a standard pet sitter would apply for. Maybe that’s the glitch??
I’ve just had a look on the website, purely out of curiosity. There are 5 sits showing in Miami. One I can’t see how many applicants they have because I’m ‘busy with another sit’ but the other four all have between 2-4 applicants (one is reviewing for dates in December but not for their other 2 earlier dates).
The more you use THS, the more bugs you will find
.
But in this instance it just sounds like the sit is not confirmed, officially. Which is quite usual for newcomers.
Maybe she should double check it
