New to this and I’m loving it so far!

Hi there, I am new to this and I’m loving it so far. I just miss my two dogs so much when I travel that this is such a win-win. I can pay for a plane ticket and go and visit my mother in Denver, my daughter in Seattle and friends in North Carolina and other areas. So far next week I start in Chicago followed by Kalamazoo Michigan, and then Denver and then late October. I’ll go to Seattle for a few weeks and my daughter is going to stay in the house on weekends with me, two Pitbulls and three chickens well the three chickens won’t be in the house with us ha ha. Anyway, I’m so excited and I do look too extend European vacations for example in late 2025 or early 2026 I will be taking Italian lessons somewhere in Italy yet to be determined it would be awesome to have a pet sit because classes only four hours each day and I’ll be studying from home the remainder of the time I’m investigating schools as we speak and Could flex to different locations, Rome, Florence Sicely, etc..

My first two pet sits are within three hours of home to build some references, but I was lucky enough to already get the Denver in Seattle to see my daughter and mom. My plan is to be able to go to Denver several times each year and come up with a regular situation that I can pop over.

I already have wonderful sitters that will stay with our dogs for over a month when we are in Europe later this year. This is opened up so many fun opportunities. We are also doing home exchange for the apartment over our garage and the combination seems like a really great situation. I can’t wait to meet people through this. I’ve already met some fabulous people through home exchange

Welcome to forum @Jetteferguson !

Great to hear that you have lined up lovely sits and sitters!

We used HomeExchange for several years before joining THS. Mostly wonderful, but I’ve found more pitfalls in THS as more members haven’t grasped the equal exchange part (yet). But looking out for that can save grief. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: If you do HE at the same time as you have sitters be sure to mention in your listing, as some sitters will avoid third parties on the property. So important that it is disclosed.

Safe travels!

Hi @Jetteferguson! I loved reading your post. Totally agree about your feelings! I am in the middle of my first pet sitting. It’s great to hear you’re enjoying pet sitting and traveling at the same time. Your itinerary sounds exciting! I’d love for you to consider coming to Europe soon. Italy is an amazing destination, and I’m sure you’ll fall in love with it. The food, culture, history, and language for sure.. ! Don’t hesitate to make the trip! Good luck with your future adventures!

Thank you. No, I don’t do them at the same time. I don’t like to have anybody in the apartment when I have dog sitters in the main house. There may be one exception, but I haven’t talked to that sitter yet.

Welcome to this wonderful world of petsitting while traveling. We also plan sits near family, and it’s worked out so well for the last 4 years. We have great relationships with homeowners in each area, and return year after year to care for their pets, and pop in to see family as well. It’s a win-win for all parties. We just recently wrapped up a month long visit to Sicily, and have found a way to mix our Airbnb stays with our petsitting journey. Best of luck in your new adventures!
