I’ve just had a video call with a ho who offered a video tour, glad I said yes as the guest bed is a mattress on the floor, which wasn’t obvious from the photo. Not sorry she decided to go with someone else…

I have the same problem, it’s often quite difficult to figure where the place is from the profile. I saw one the other day where the HO used the phrase “a stone’s throw” more than once in the profile to say how far they were from nearby towns etc. I’m travelling around the UK by train with my bike, and I’ve seen a few where they selected “Not accessible by public transport” but they say in the text that it’s 2 miles from the train station, which for me is fine.

It didn’t happen to me, but a sitter friend had an HO who messaged her randomly several times a day, with stuff like “Send me a photo of the bathroom - NOW!” Sometimes there was an excuse, sometimes there wasn’t. She was obviously just micro-managing my friend’s days. Ugh!
@fledermaus I would have been so tempted to send a photo of someone sitting on the toilet reading the paper. I mean they did insist on “NOW!”

Yep. I saw a listing the other week for St Vincent’s in the Caribbean stating all the fantastic things about the island and how wonderful it will be to spend time there. Crime Capital of the Caribbean. We anchored off for a few days and in that time a boat in the anchorage got robbed, there was a drive through shooting and everyone (and I mean everyone) warned us about pickpockets.
Not really the locals fault as they see what the perceive as rich tourists in their town and they have nothing. Not even some food to feed the children. Never, ever go out dressed to the nines in the Caribbean. You are making yourself an easy target.

Received today in our inbox a direct invitation that is a request that we travel for an in person meet up to be vetted to see if we would be suitable as “reserve sitters “ !!!
The request is that we would have to be willing to be on standby to cover for the already confirmed sitter ( in case of any last minute emergency where the confirmed sitter is incapacitated or has to leave the sit ……we would be expected to drop everything and stand in )
and it’s for a month long sit !!! ………
so we would be on standby for a month !!! ( and therefore unable to accept any other sit during that period )
BTW ….This wasn’t even a sit we had favourited or previously applied for !!!

what the what? i’d find a sassy gif and respond with a link. is this a new HO? I honestly thing THS needs to pull their head out and do some education with new members before they lose their long-term core and are left with only cheap users looking for the most of the least.

There is a listing I’ve come across a few times, the pictures of the stunning home, grab my attention every time. The photos look like a real estate or Airbnb listing, the last picture is out of character from the rest of the home, the garage, with a pile of boxes, some workout equipment, trash bins, a cart with a kettle and a toaster and a bed. The about the home section goes into great detail about the beautiful home and furnishings and the last sentence mentions that the sitter will be staying in the garage with no access to the house.
