NYTimes - Think You Understand Your Dog? Think Again

Very limited study of human - dog interaction, what influences human perception of dog’s feelings. But based on only 1 dog, yet it still got published in a scientific journal.

Thanks for sharing. I love everything about communication, including interspecies communication.

Very interesting @toml thanks for sharing.

@Newpetlover I realise that I find non verbal communication especially interesting, in both humans and animals. I work in a school where many children are nonverbal, and spend a lot of time trying to “read” them. I realise I do exactly the same with animals.

Interesting. I think most people can “read” their pets, but I can think of at least one friend who loves his dog to death but has no clue as to the dog’s needs or what the dog is thinking. One of my cats had urinary blockage a few months ago. While I recognized something was wrong pretty quickly, I didn’t quite get what. In retrospect the cat literally showed me exactly what was wrong purposely getting my attention to follow him to the box and then straining. I thought he was constipated! When I called the vet in the morning and the vet asked, “Has he urinated?” my heart sank! I got him there in time and he made a full recovery, but sheesh he did everything but cut a paw and write it down in blood!
