Yes, they do have sits around Europe, they always seem to be good quality sits but nowhere near the quantity you see with THS - You can see sits without joining by going to their website. The lady who owns the site is very friendly and responsive too

We’ve joined the Guardians and already have booked a sit which we are looking forward to. It is evolving week by week and I’m happy to support it as I want an alternative to THS and the people that run it are not at the behest of investors but also full time sitters themselves.

Since it is free to join for the 1st year for Global Pet Sitters I did it. While I am pretty happy with THS, I can see this new option might eventually take off and implement more useful features than THS. So far here is where they are at with memberships. I didnt complete my profile because its not important to me at the moment with an active THS Dual Membership. Sharing in case others are interested to poke around there. The website is very similar looking to THS at a glance, but the developers are actively looking for and acting upon feedback from users. Interesting stuff indeed, they are more active on social media also (FB and Instagram), and they run it rather than a non related private 3rd party like the THS FB page. The membership can be HO, Sitter or Dual, all is the same price when the free memberships are taken, around $108 US annually is what AI told me.
I already joined this. It’s interesting to join a new community or use a new business in its early stage and watch it grow. I’m user #9xx, and they’ve set their first milestone at 3,000 users.
Just an opinion. I think both sitters and homeowners will be migrating to different sites in the coming years. The main advantage that THS has is the number of sitters and the number of sits. Even if a new start up with no $ for advertising and no staff managed to stay afloat on donations and kickstarters it would need a steady stream of homeowners and enough sitters to give homeowners suitable matches. If I were looking to join another site I’d look for one that:
- Is already established and has a sizable (albeit smaller) number of homeowners and sitters than THS.
- Has a solid reputation with fewer highly publicized “incidents” than THS.
- Is still committed to the exchange model and not adding fees or advertising itself as low-rent Rover.
- Has better policies regarding privacy of accounts and users – both hosts and sitters personal information.
Other people might have other criteria in choosing alternatives like a paid or unpaid section, but I like the idea of a site that is just doing non-monetary. Some might not be happy if another site had a slightly different culture – for example – more likelihood that hosts might ask the sitter for some bonafides that aren’t generally asked for here. But for me, the alternative already exists.
I’d like to be a member of an organisation that values me and wants to engage, rather than one that just sees me as a source of revenue and ignores not only me, but everyone else as well.
I don’t think that is a good excuse to stop the offer, just look at their membership price, about half of THS’, you can see the greed, they baited me into registering making it look like the membership costs £0.00 for a year, then before you can do anything, you will need to pay for the membership, it tells a lot about the owners mindset, I guess they see the number of people registering and think they could have made how much if it wasn’t for free, they got a false sense of success and got delusional, it looks like they want a quick success and quick money. They’re already acting like this with a limited number of listings and sitters, I don’t expect this business to behave better in the future. I’m not optimistic about this business. I will not use them.

A community like THS wasn’t built in two years, and they primarily benefited from promotion by the members.
They could have offered a favorable subscription rate and applied the new booking fees to new members !

I was perusing a competitor’s site this afternoon and saw an amazing sit that matches our destination and dates. Gorgeous inner city property, two easy cats and a car in a VERY expensive destination that we need to be in.
Totally conditioned by the ths 5-app rule I panicked because I didnt think I could join, set up a profile and get an application in before it disappeared. After all, these type of listings on THS typically disappear in minutes. So I asked another housesitting friend who’s a member to send a message with our THS profile link saying we were super keen and were in the process of joining, which she kindly did. But she did tell me to chill and that home owners on that platform are far more relaxed.
I then set us up and sent in my application, still in a bit of a rush but major palpitations over. . Listing still there. Application thoughtfully created and profile done…
I forgot how pleasant the process used to be. The 5-app pause has really reduced any enjoyment from perusing and putting your hat in for a sit you might like.
Will we get it. No idea. I do know we were able to dot our i’s and cross our t’s without panic and with 90+ 5 star sits linked as references, I think we have a good chance.
And as a couple now on 2 platforms we can easily split and overlap sits (with the homeowner’s) permission of course, to remove any gaps.
Now to work out which other platforms I can join, with a view to making THS and its high fees and lack of customer care totally redundant in the future. As they say in the Pantene ad. It won’t happen overnight but it will happen!

Totally different experience and both homeowners and sitters likely to find exactly who they are looking for and not just someone they feel they have to have. So many complaints and problems don’t have to happen as they do now on THS because of this issue. Unfortunately new members just aren’t as aware of the pitfalls and end up falling into that pit.

I checked in on Global Pet Sitters, the new knockoff of THS. I joined to be one of the first 3000 free members, I’m #922. Were are at 20 days later and they’re up to #956, not growing very fast. Looks like there are only 8 available sits currently. No harm that I signed up, was hoping they would grow a bit faster. Without massive marketing it will be hard. I will keep watching
