Have 2 very well behaved 90 lb. goofball labs. The sit is going well, but there is Sooo much hair everywhere. The pet owner has multiple sticky lint rollers they use on their clothes and the furniture, a small hand vac and a larger lightweight Dyson, but none of them get all the hair up. I’ve ordered a different type of lint roller that is supposed to get here today (one that has a case attached that you empty). I’m hoping that will help. But, on their previous (first) sit, the pet owner indicated she wished the sitter would have used the small vacuum more. I’m honestly trying everything I can think of to stay on top of it, but does anyone else have any suggestions? Since this is our first sit, we really want to start out with a good review.
Thanks for any and all suggestions
Some sits are hairier than others sometimes you think you’re never going to see the end of hair on your clothes. But eventually you do when you hit a patch of non-shedding pets! Sorry, no advice, we just tend to vacuum every 1-2 days when it’s that bad.
Find a pair of rubber washing up gloves, run them under the tap so they’re wet/damp and then “brush” the labs from head to tail as if you’re giving them a firm stroke each time (keep rinsing and brushing to freshen the gloves) and it really helps with malting. Do it all outside! #dadstrick
Scotch heavy duty packing tape. Tedious but good for difficult spots of hair you can’t get up or for your clothes.
You’ve had some great tips, but also take their dog brush out with you when you walk them, and brush them away from their home (so you don’t have to clean up more mess than necessary), and if their own brush doesn’t work very well, just buy one that will, because some pet owners have rubbish brushes for their pets that don’t actually remove the hair very well.
I was going to suggest rubber gloves too but for getting hair off furniture & clothing. Labs are gorgeous so there is a lot of forgiving their shedding.
I wouldn’t think many labowners have those heavyduty dog-furblowers- but they are really efficient in blowing off loose fur, not only drying it.
As @HappyDeb says - see if they have a dog brush and brush them - outside! You can also consider limiting rooms they have access to.
For my dog I have blankets on the couch that can go in the washing machine. Not sure if that is an option on your sit.
Are you grooming the dogs? That can help (do it outside and have carrier bags at the ready for the hair, so it doesn’t blow about all over). Labs shed profusely. Do they have regular brushes or is there a Furminator (or similar)?
Hi @KennGinnTx
You’ve received some great advice here! Have you tried out any of the tips?
It’d be great to know if any of them were particularly helpful!
