Pet Parent cancelling sit because 'regular' sitter is now available

i think some HOs think this site is all about them and their needs

I’m truly sorry this has happened to you. I hope it’s not catching as we have 6 sits organised over 3 months in the UK coming up and we have paid for flights from Australia.
Hopefully you find something better and agree with others that there should be warnings attached to their profile.

Always have a Plan B. It’s simply a matching service, and unexpected stuff will happen…. even Airbnb hosts cancel sometimes so ‘always expect the unexpected’ as Monty Python would say….

Some sitters I observe are the same.
In fact we will always prioritise our needs surely, it’s just that some people are more reliable than others. I fall into the very reliable/ethical camp but expect to come across the full range of human behaviour in my travels and so plan accordingly.

Yes!! Turo does that, too. If people are worried about being dinged for legitimate reasons, the note could come with a reason that would be input by TH (not the HO or PS). They could be standardized, like health reason, family emergency, no reason, etc.

I believe sitters are dinged for cancellations.

Airbnb hosts will have a mark in their profiles with the cancellation and the number of days before that the cancellation takes place. It also impacts their SuperHost status. In other words, they lose it for some period of time. I can’t remember the specifics as I have not been a host for awhile and I never cancelled except in 2020.

I’ve not seen any signage on sitters’ profiles that have cancelled HOs although I think it would be a great idea with perhaps a one line reason provided/verified by THS.

Of course THS won’t remove them. They will probably blame you for not buying their upsell membership with insurance. I do not care for most of THS changes of late, but I do believe they should allow the sitter to be allowed to leave a review that states the HO cancelled them at the last minute, or two weeks out, or a month out. Something that warns potential sitters that the HO are flakes.

THS should take more responsibility in these kind of cases. It’s very frustrating when you’ve done nothing wrong and yet you are the ones put out with no repercussions fur the HO. At the very least the HO should have a mark on their profile to say they did this. At best they should have contributed towards your costs incurred. I hope you get something. Good luck.
