A discussion on locked rooms

We always had people ask us about our personal items as well (paperwork, bedroom, etc.). What we did was put a lock on our office door and bedroom door which holds most important personal belongings. This alleviated the need to even think about it, and mostly, the sitter never has to worry about anyone thinking they are rummaging through things…it’s a win win for both sides.

How to/whether to explain/mention a locked room

I have a home office. Due to the need to keep confidential files absolutely confidential, I always lock the office door whenever we have friends or family visiting. I intend to do the same when my sitter comes, What advice do you have for how to talk about this locked door with my sitter?

Hi @Mitbar, welcome :-). It is always nice for a sitter to have some space made available for clothes, toiletries and food. Especially for a 3 week stay. Your suggestion for your bathroom vanity drawers sounds good. Some space in your pantry and your fridge is welcome, and some freezer space is always appreciated. Paying To Sit - Contributions to Utilities

I am intrigued and disappointed to see that Trusted Housesitters allows owners to advertise a sit and ask for money to stay at the property and look after the pets. This is a real turn off for me, that’s for sure. And such a shame. Surely looking after pets and the property is recompense enough to the owners peace of mind. It is unlikely any sitter would use excessive utilities. Shouldn’t this type of sit be advertised elsewhere? It makes me uncomfortable and sad. I would be interested to hear …
