Dear Hosts and Sitters! Any comments for the following? Is there ‘room’ for another portal for Hosts/ Sitters to have? We do about 9 months House-Sitting annually, so occasionally there is a gap between appointments, usually a few days+. Is there opportunity for Sitters to list that location and when that availablity might be? Surely there are Hosts ‘out there’ that might see well reviewed or newbie Sitters loitering (!) in their area and spontaneously decide to take a ‘long weekend’ or a few days off that they hadn’t planned in advance? This surely has two benefits….the Host can randomly consider unplanned flitting off whilst the Sitter has an appointment not needing expensive ‘fill-in’ accommodation? So the Sitter posts the locality and available dates with Host able to then do a search. Of course, there’ll obviously be another charge from THS to facilitate this, but……
Interesting idea. Thanks for sharing.
Maybe something like, “Last-minute Get-away Sitters available in your area…?”
Great title, thank you! T
That sounds like a good idea. In the past, we’ve had the odd owner ask us to let them know if we have a few days free to see if they fancy a short break.
It’s never ended up being that way, because we typically only have 1 night free while sitting in the UK, but your idea is great.
Great idea for enhancing support to members. Let’s see if THS will spend any of the extra income from sit fees on such a feature.
Great idea. ![]()

There is a website that already does that. I am not allowed to post it here, but message me if you would like the link.
You are allowed to mention it but you can’t share a link..
Last time I tried it was deleted but sure I can try again. The site is called Seeking Sits ( you can google that).
For Sitters
Share your travel plans and availability. Connect with homeowners who might not have listed on TrustedHousesitters yet. Expand your opportunities beyond active listings.
For Homeowners
Subscribe to your location and receive alerts when verified TrustedHousesitters members plan to visit your area. Review their profiles and message them directly on TrustedHousesitters.
Disclaimers:
- Not a housesitting platform: Seeking Sits is not a platform for arranging housesits, simply a tool for connecting TrustedHousesitters sitters and homeowners.
- Not a replacement: All sit arrangements should be made through the TrustedHousesitters platform. We don’t facilitate the actual booking or management of sits.
- Not affiliated: Seeking Sits is an independent platform made by a TrustedHousesitters sitter, and has ZERO affiliation with TrustedHousesitters.
I’m sorry, but I really don’t understand what you are proposing. Could you or anyone else please explain?
Thanks-
I like the idea. The only thing close to that would be if a host contacted sitters that saved the host’s listings. Since host can message sitters (I believe) Something like “We see you saved our listing and while we don’t have dates up if there is a time you’d like to come out, we might like to get away. “
While I don’t care to get invitations from host for listing I’m not interested in, I would like this.
It’s for the days a sitter has free in between sits, it’s a good idea if a sitter could post their dates and the area they will be in, then owners in that area could reach out if they want to take a break for a few days.
The main benefit to sitters is that it saves on hotel bills for the 2-3 days they are free in between sits.
The main benefit to owners is that they can take a break for 2-3 days, whereas ordinarily it may have been really tricky to fill a 2-3 day sit, because sitters typically prefer longer stays as it’s costly/inconvenient for sitters to travel to a specific destination for just a 2-3 day sit.
Hope that helps explain it ![]()
The more I think about this idea, the more it appeals to me.
Could be a much better use of a THS calendar-like feature: Sitters post the area they’ll be in a locale (within say 30 miles/50 km), along with the dates they’re available to sit in that area, then let owners “search for a sitter in your area,” a la Rover.
@BunnyCat Thanks for sharing this.
I’d be surprised that THS takes umbrage at this service, as it’s free, & complimentary to theirs. It would be a lot more useful if more Hosts & Sitters knew about it, but definitely makes THS more functional for a particular use case.
It (or equivalent built-in functionality) could even boost their bottom line by encouraging & facilitating more short sits that might start lagging due to the new booking fees.
