Reaching out with invites

As a sitter who is currently receiving 3/4 unsolicited invites each week, I was just wondering how many such invites HO send out and how do you go about choosing who to invite? I have yet to accept an invite as the dates/ location never fit.

I haven’t sent any invites. Seems like a silly way to go about it because you can’t see if they are willing to travel to your area or the dates they might be interested in.

I have had a few invites. Until this week, I always declined because they didn’t work with my schedule. I accepted one this week after a video chat. It’s farther out than I usually book, but I thought, why not try it out.

I have received a few invites and have accepted some. It works well if you would have been unable to apply, as overlaps with something but the owner happy to get a neighbour or friends to do the days you can’t. And some I would not have been looking for as within 20 miles but if they have an indoor swimming pool, a lovely home and grounds and cute pets, then I may not say ‘no’. I have had a few nice surprizes with invites recieved. I do turn down far more than I accept but the ones i have accepted have been good. It is always worth a home owner reaching out. The worst that can happen is a sitter saying ‘no’ but they could equally say ‘yes’.

I receive invitations for local sits (even less than half a mile away) even though my profile asks for none in this area. They tend to be from new HOs, and they haven’t read my profile, nor do they seem to have grasped the concept of mutual exchange (although I do realise that local sits suit some sitters) I decline these, sometimes with tips for making their sit look more appealing to sitters.

However, I’ve also had invitations from HOs in my preferred location which have led to some great sits.
