My sitter did not follow my Welcome Guide instructions, overfed my cats dry food, caused a flood from the toilet (plumber had to be called), broke two hinges on a cabinet door (still needing repair), let my laundry sit in sewage for a week, and left before the sit was over.
I did give her a poor review and she was shocked and angry.
What compensation would I receive from THS. I am a premium member and have already contacted them by their bots and email but haven’t heard anything except being sent articles to read which don’t apply.
I’m glad you left an honest review, so many people don’t, which is how problem sits keep happening.
I’m not sure there is any compensation for the problems mentioned. Possibly insurance coverage for the plumber and hinge repair, but I think it has to get denied by your insurance first. They won’t do anything about the kitties being overfed as, aside from a basic background check, sitters are not actually trained or vetted by THS.
The best recourse is to file a Member Dispute about her leaving early, as that is against the T&C’s. Provide THS with evidence, and try to get the sitter removed from the site so it doesn’t happen to the next person. If you get the chatbot ask to speak to a live person.
You will receive no compensation because THS is a matching site ad doesn’t employ sitters or home owners. You could start a dispute – using the word dispute and making it clear that the sitter did stuff like leaving early that are against the terms. At most they will “watch” the sitter. If the flooding caused damage there is some insurance, but you’ll have to go through your home insurance first.
THS doesn’t indemnify the sitters so possibly you could take the sitter into small claims court but given that there is no real contract and THS won’t help you find the sitter, I don’t think that will help.
If you complain loudly and often enough to a real human being about your dissatisfaction and costs to you, then maybe they’ll extend your membership or something.
Why did you leave your laundry in the first place? I would say that was down to you.
We hear so many stories here of owners who leave their dirty dishes in the sink, and laundry in the washing machine. We sitters are not your unpaid hired help. We’re there purely to look after your pets and keep your home as secure as possible
Shafofo, sadly it’s not enough to apply to my insurance as I have a high deductible. I can show evidence that she left early from WhatsApp. She left a few texts wanting to know if I made it home ok. She also did not leave my home as tidy as she found it. My home reeked from spoiled food in the fridge. I don’t how she could stand it as it was BAD and catfur tumbleweeds everywhere!
My laundry was in my laundry basket and the last thing I wore before my trip. It was never my intention to have her wash it. There wasn’t even enough for a load. It was close to the toilet and she did not turn off the water to the toilet so it reached my laundry basket. She did not follow my instructions on holding the handle down until it flushed which I repeated a few times. My home was spotless when she arrived as it was professionally cleaned.
Yes, I showed her everything. I even offered to print out the Welcome Guide and she declined. She also has a long-term home rental business and assured me that she knew how to take care of homes and that all would be well.
