Thank you for my first laugh of the morning ![]()
I don’t necessarily disagree. I don’t think “more” sitters necessarily makes things run better for sitters or homeowners. They need more great homes and great sitters.
But I also believe that it is a niche in the way that Airbnb was a niche, and it can expand if more people see it as an attractive option – not just a low cost one. This includes both sitters and homeowners.
The only part where I heard him mention the exchange side of things for the sitter was that they get “a home stay.” And in a safe suburban neighborhood! (Not always, buddy.)
“Home stay” is a weak way to word what sitters should get and it’s slipped in there in a way that most HO’s at least probably won’t even register it. It absolutely does not help explain to HO’s that this needs to be a mutual and equal exchange.
As long as 8 years ago, I had HOs argue with me that “This is not supposed to be a vacation for you” when I asked about things like public transport to/from their house to get out and about!!
A host with that attitude isn’t going to be swayed by a promotional video no matter how clearly it spells out the respective roles of the two parties. It’s not about pet sitting it’s about arrogance and lack of respect for others.
It has not been deleted everywhere…
Does she still work for THS ?
