Yes, those as well, but I was going with the direction of the thread:
I had a sit request once from a HO that had a gorgeous listing but during a video call revealed it wasnāt even a little bit accurate. The house in the photos was a vacation rental in another city and their actual location was four hours from what was listed. They wanted me to care for five large dogs instead of two, one had to either be muzzled or kept in a separate room due to aggression issues. Occasionally the neighbors would expect to drop their dogs to be walked as well, and none could be walked together so I would be expected spend most of the day just walking. They also wanted me to check in on their various businesses in town to spy on their employees aaannnddd wash their exterior windows. It was such an easy ānoā and they continued to bother me for two weeks after I rejected it.
@ABGM walking a cat is very different to walking a dog! They are very stubborn and will only go where they want to go! There is no leading them- the cat leads you!
Re-teeth brushing- its a near impossible task with a wriggly cat who hates getting her teeth brushed! We do our best but its a challenge! We do make sure she has her special teeth powder with dinner.
Unbelievable! Some people still believe in slavery and they think they even feel entitled to freely choose whoās going to be their slave. If you refuse, they keep harassing you.
When I have sat for pets who have their teeth brushed they have told me I didnāt have to. Itās because itās not an easy task and takes a lot of trust from the pet; they donāt expect a stranger to do it.
Iāve just seen a sit in San Francisco one of the pets is a puppy who requires āfull time supervisionā
The listing adds that the puppy is also too young to be taken out therefore the sitter canāt leave the home for more than 1 hour !!! and there are other pets too ā¦
Yesterday, I saw one where you could pop out to the store for about 15 minutes before the dog went mad barking and destroying things. Really appealing!
@Newpetlover the host mentions the importance of teeth brushing in her listing and also strongly emphasized it at handover and demonstrated (with ease) how she did it. However the husband said he could never manage it and she did say, whilst walking out the door, not to worry if we couldnāt! However knowing how important it was to her we did at least try a few times but the cat was super resistant. The other cat requires mouth spraying twice a day (for ulcers) which is more manageable as she is tiny and easier to control!
There is a coffee machine, but you must know how to operate it. If you know how to operate it bring your own coffee beans and water. Otherwise itās best not to use it.
Bring your own water !!!
holy moly that was a doozy. Did you send a message to THS alerting them to the scammers @Streetasparagus ? Love the name by the way.
I saw a listing yesterday that wanted a sitter to brush their dogās and catās teeth, even though the hosts hadnāt quite managed to do that yet.
Seemed like a good way to get bitten and then for someone to sue them.
Saw another one that mentioned several times how the neighbors detest barking from the hostās dogs. Also mentioned that their parents lived in an adjoining duplex. Wow, what sitter wouldnāt want such a picnic of a sit?
Along with a string of other requirements; Ā«DO NOT APPLY IF YOU HAVE BEEN DECLINED BEFOREĀ». So no couples, no men, only if you can meet up before confirmation - and not if youāve been declined beforeā¦. Youāll run out of options pretty fast. Yeah, and you need to stay put mostly. Attractive sit, Iām sure.
DO NOT APPLY IF YOU HAVE BEEN DECLINED BEFOREā¦that pretty much rules out ALL sitters!!
@Lokstar we did one sit where one of the 2 kittens had his own toothbrush. He must have really liked the taste of toothpaste and had been chewing the hosts toothbrushes! We just had to hold the toothbrush for him.
The other kitten was not interested!
Honestly, who would apply for this??
Here goes:
During the catsitting, what we expect from you:
- Having experience dealing with cats and enjoying their company.
- You have to be active encouraging playtime. Our indoor cat needs to be mentally and physically stimulated. You have to enjoy playing with cats. You must like physical contact, like having the cat siting on you lap or sleeping close to you, as well enjoying grooming the cat (brush its hair).
- Sticking to the catās routine is a must as this reduces any separation anxiety and encourages positive behavior.
- Keeping the catās environment clean and tidy (changing food bowels, cleaning the sand box daily, keep the cat beds/blankets clean). For stays over 4-5 days vacuum the floor regularly is important to prevent the cat from eating hair and dust and throwing up afterwards. We store cleaning supplies were you can easily find them.
- Paying attention to daily food intake and toilet habits.
- Donāt leave the cat alone for more than 6 hours.
- Be rigorous and careful about safety:
- our cat is an indoor cat, keep windows and doors locked at all times.
- you have the responsibility to store any hazards out of reach: make sure floors and surfaces are clear of small objects like hairbands and coins which are easy for our cat to choke on. Keep plastic bags hidden away. Keep away common foods that are toxic to cats, such as chocolate, garlic, and grapes. Keep breakable objects and glasses with liquids out of harmās way - cats have a certain tendency to knock things off surfaces!
- No smoking.
- No guests at the house.
- Daily feedback with message at a specified hour that works for both of us. Important to report daily food intake, toilet habits, general mood. Nice to send pictures.
- There might be 3-5 house plants that need watering.
When you leave the house, we expect that you follow the ācleanliness checklistā suggested in THS platform:
- Tidy and dust, vacuum and mop the floors (donāt forget to empty the vacuum bag, too).
- Empty all rubbish/garbage bins, and take out any recycling.
- Empty the dishwasher (or wash and put away any dirty dishes), and give the cooker, microwave and any other cooking utensils a clean.
- Clean out the fridge and dispose of any open or perishable food items.
- Clean the bathroom, including the shower/bath and toilet.
- Launder any towels and bedding youāve used, and remake the bed with clean bedding.
make repairs to plant drip watering system as needed.
To be fair, I do most of that anyway, but the inclusion of OTT stuff like reporting on cat poops, fixed time for updates and emptying the hoover bag, nope. Even the normal stuff, listed out like that screams micromanaging and difficult to satisfy.
Agree. I do most un-asked but the feel is offputting. Iāll feed and scoop but I wonāt count droppings.
