I see this every time I stay at a hotel in the US. I always think what a waste of water and sheets! One duvet cover is perfectly fine but very often there are at least two sheets plus a duvet cover on a bed, not counting the one for the mattress.
Yep, and I think itās already come up on here as well!
I use a top sheet, and I only wash my duvet cover maybe every 4th time I wash the sheets. I despise wrestling my duvet into the cover and doing up the buttons. Just did this last night.
Two sheets plus one for the mattress? That does sound unusual.
We lonely two sheets total which get washed regularly- a fitted bottom sheet and a flat top sheet. Our duvet in its cover sits on top of the top sheet and the cover only get washed once in a while, much less often that the sheet set.
Yes, one for the mattress, one underneath and one on top of the duvet with cover.
We in Germany only use duvet with cover. We donāt āknowā sheets except for the mattress.
I donāt like to get in touch with any blankets that have been used by other people and therefore I prefer completely covered duvets. I will never be able to sleep with sheets and blankets without getting tangled up in them.
OK I think I have seen a sheet on top of the duvet in some hotels. Those ones seem not to have a duvet cover so they put a sheet under and over the duvet.
My duvet has an enclosed cover so no need of a sheet on top of it. That being said, what I like at home and what I like when Iām travelling are two different things. But because I donāt wash my actual duvet cover as often as the sheets, when I first encountered hotels in Europe with no top sheet, it grossed me out because I didnāt know if theyād washed the cover every time. Now I just assume they do and donāt worry about it.
they most certainly do wash the cover every time!
In Australia weāre used to 2 sheets plus a doona (duvet) cover. Where only a duvet is used, I tend to get too hot. By having a top sheet I can throw the duvet off but still have a thin cover over me. Sometimes I remove the duvet from its cover and just use the cover. I even travel in the UK with my own flat sheet!
Oh thatās a good point. I often push of the duvet and just have the sheet too. #HotFlashes
The first thing I do when I come into any hotel room, no matter where in the world, is to remove the duvet. Itās much too warm for me, because itās either made of feathers or polyester. I only need the cover, and as it is usually starched, itās warm enough. At home I have a flat cotton blanket inside the cover.
ā¦.oh yes, the hot flashesā¦
Ahā¦ā¦ the old āone leg sticking outā temperature regulation method is neededā¦
Yes, that is my usual method @Foldor13 ! Canāt have my feet getting too hot!
Thatās not enough when the duvet contains feathers and is kingsize! I tried it too often and sometimes when I am too tired after a flight to strip the cover itās on and off all night.
Been there, done that, got the t shirt!
I do that often @Foldor13!!!
reminds me of when I was very young and being taught how to iron. I started with the dish (tea) towels and cotton hankies.
I have a problem. In South France, no dryer. Nothing is dry in les than couple days. If I wash towels, sheets, they will be in hangers in the living and dining room. So I leave at lunchtime, i will strip the bed and will ask what to do.
Well, when thereās no dryer, the owners canāt expect you to blow everything dry by yourself , can they? I guess they know it takes a while to dry.
They didnāt tell you about any preferences about this?
Hi @Grandma Iām sure the owners will have a practical and doable solution ā¦
as a matter of interest being in the South of France is there an outside drying option, I donāt mean for sheets on departure, but during your sit. Were you unable to use the free, fresh, sun and wind method?
Just curious
It has been raining and cold. This time of the year.
As a sitter, I like to leave the home at least as tidy as I found it. Unless the owner has specifically requested that I not (some like to do their own laundry), I always wash towels and sheets and remake the bed.
Especially if Iāve been sleeping in the master bedroom, the owners have been appreciative that their bed is all ready for them.
