Should noisy house sits be disclosed

I get the impression that people here saying “it’s an apartment, what did you expect?!” have not lived in many apartments or any dwelling with shared walls, or not for a long while. I have, and the noise and disturbances that OP is having to endure is really unusual and unfortunate, and definitely noteworthy.

This does look fun. Noise in a pub is different! That’s where it belongs

@Katie
Thats quite true, but maybe they chose not to live in an apartment as there is a higher chance of noise disturbance?
A noisy hotel room is bad enough and pretty much everyone has experienced those.
Personally, I wouldn’t take any sit in a flat or apartment due to the increased noise risk.

If people want to take a gamble, I wish them the best of luck

We all make mistakes, and petsitting is no different. We certainly did on our early ones but it taught us to be more vigilant going forward.
The key to mistakes is learning from them.

Hope your future sits are happier ones, good luck.

And that is why one writes this kind of conditions in a review, so that other sitters will know about it.

(I learn more and more that the reviews on THS are totally unreliable, that even with the blind review members are reluctant to write down information that they would have like to have had. And that there are loads of forum members that recommend not to deduct stars.)

And also, avoiding apartment/flat sits too

Maybe avoid apartments with the crappy housing standards of the UK, with little insulation against cold or noise, with cladding that may burn, etc etc.

In Estepona in Spain, I was perfectly fine in the modern apartment, within walking distance from the beach. That was walking distance for the little legs of a Maltezer! And of course there was an elevator.

I’ve not got your superior building knowledge but safe to say, houses have thicker ‘barriers’ than flats or apartments

I do believe that’s so true. A lot of sitters won’t bring up negative stuff because they don’t want to seem like boat rockers. I am getting better at mentioning certain things in my reviews so that it doesn’t exactly sound negative but still can be a clue for other sitters to consider.

I did my first local U.S. sit recently and it was a cushy apartment with beautiful views. I never heard the neighbors or street noise from the 14th floor, even though the location was at city center.

In the U.S., apartments and condos can vary a lot. And usually those above five stories can’t be “stick built,” meaning out of wood, because of zoning laws aimed at safety. Mid-rises taller than that and high-rises must be built out of concrete. That tends to mean less noise between floors, unless say construction is going on.

If someone is considering sits, the above might be worth noting.

It also might be worth taking a look at Google street view or such, though the images can be dated at times. Like while buying homes, I’ve seen images that I know don’t reflect the current state, including outdated visuals of construction or an empty lot. Sometimes it takes Google awhile to update images.
