Would that be accommodation without pets and responsibilities? You are comparing apples to oranges here!
Yes, I too have a back seat hammock and doggy seat belts, which I use with harnesses never collars. I have a selection of adjustable ones for if the owners donāt have. I donāt do ābigā dogs but can pop them in the boot part of the hatchback with comfy blankets.
As for a valet, Iād never consider paying to have it done lol - I clean the car myself!
Hilarious! Apples and pears are very similar; they are both pome fruits in the Rosaceae family.
But undeniably different too. Still a great saying!
Itās not the sitters I select, but the pool of applicants to choose from. I have had great sitters but increasing numbers of unsuitable applicants who are looking for free accommodation near relatives, or a job, or a tourist attraction.
The saying is āyou are comparing apples and orangesā which means you are comparing things that are so fundamentally different that you canāt meaningfully judge them against each other. There are a range of pet sitting options, and a range of accommodation options which sitters and homeowners weigh up each time.
You are absolutely right @Marj . Written in haste then revisited to amend.
Well, thatās one more thing Iāll have to put in my listing when looking for a sitter. I do list that itās necessary to have a vehicle to take the dog to a private dog park some days, or if Iām not using my own vehicle, there may the possibility of someone using my vehicle.
I provide a seat cover and towels and always leave money for gas and make it clear that if anything comes up and they have to purchase anything for the house or pets, for example, to let me know to reimburse them.
I never put in my listing that I would be leaving the money for gas as I always thought thatās what any responsible homeowner would do!
where i am, itās required that anyone driving your vehicle for more than twelve days in the year has to be listed on your insurance, which is an extra expense that I as the homeowner pay. In that case, I drive the person from and back to the Airport ( or to their next sit , if thatās the case) And also have them take me to the airport and pick me up. Iāve never had an issue with this , but I think thatās because I ensure that all of this is discussed ahead of time. I consider that part of making it a good sit for the person coming here and less stress for me as the home owner. If I happen to miss something, i would much prefer that the sitter communicate that to me, so I can discuss it with them, rather than just putting it in a review.
Lucky you, you must live in a house, but I live in a top flat, not quite so easy to plug in a vacuum cleaner or carry buckets of hot soapy water up and down many flights of stairs.! Yes, I have a small portable vacuum, but thats only for occasional crumbs and hairs.
Yes! Please include in your review the fact that they live on a busy road and you had to use your own car to exercise the dog. This is not giving a bad review! It is just reporting the facts. It wonāt discourage all sitters but for some, including me, it would.
Ha! one week before we were to sit a cat and geriatric dog with a few health issues we got the house manual. Now the HO and I had previously done a video chat and discussed the health of both animals, which I felt perfectly capable of handling. However, what she failed to mentions but was written in the manual was that both animals were prone to seizures!! We could have canceled but since Iāve owned a dog who had seizures I opted not to. However, when the HO had a family emergency and had to cancel three days before the sit I must confess that I was quite relieved.
The people I am sitting for now mentioned they wanted to do this when they retired. My daughter was with me on the previsit, coming from our holiday sit, and she mentioned you have to take less desirable sits first to build up reviews before you get the desirable sits. That was off putting for him, didnāt think he would have to build a profile.
