Sitter wants to bring boyfriend

@pietkuip This statement is presenting a completely false narrative.

@pietkuip Yes I answered the sitter’s question BEFORE my OP here on the forum. I asked for travel eta and requested an in-person handoff (due to bf coming). I STILL haven’t heard back from sitter.

I don’t have cold feet. This is an actual problem.

@Newpetlover I actually replied to the sitter the day or so before my OP to the forum. My request at that time was to have an eta for travel, an in-person handoff, and ok’d the bf. I haven’t heard one word back as of yet.

@Katie So true! It’s actually 4 weeks. I just may go crazy worrying the whole time. I’m trusting my gut and moving in a different direction.

@Cuttlefish So true! I’m going to do just that!

@Hallt64 Thank you for your feedback.

I agree and that is why I love this forum! Everyone is so kind and informative!

@apierlioni I’m so glad you were given the courtesy to choose from the beginning!

I’m learning more and more to follow my gut however it gets tricky when my options are limited.

Not many people want to sit in central Arizona during the summer

@andrealovesanimals The sitter didn’t provide a number and the messages are showing as ā€˜read’

Then that was the basic problem. I think both sides need that, especially when stuff happens.

I usually have my number in my signature when I send an application. And otherwise, it will often come up naturally when arranging a video chat via Whatsapp. The latest is when I see the contact information in the Welcome Guide, and I will send a test message to set up an alternative channel of communication.

@pietkuip I provided my phone number and requested the sitter’s as well but never received it. I definitely dropped the ball on that one

@Silversitters Yes I’m a premium member.

How long am I required m to wait for the sitter to cancel or in my case…ghost me?

@MaggieUU I told her yes but would like an in-person handoff (to meet the bf) since there were no travel arrangements made at that time of the conversation.

@legendvictoria, an owner is the only one who can physically cancel a sit on the site; if sitters want to cancel they need to ask the owner to do it from their end. In certain situations, THS can cancel a sit on behalf of a member.
You have been very patient in waiting days for this sitter to respond, especially where your messages have been read.
I would send one last message saying as you have had no response from her yet your messages have been read, that you are cancelling her as your sitter.
Re-advertise your listing and stress at the beginning your reason for needing a sitter. All the best.

@legendvictoria You didn’t say in your initial post that you’d given your permission for the boyfriend to accompany the sitter, which is why this entire thread has focussed on that part of the problem you presented (and which is also the title of this thread).

Check the Ts & Cs but it’s normally cancellations within 14 days of the start date that are covered on both sides. We’ve just had the premium insurance pay out for a cancelled sit (more info to follow on another thread) with submission of reasonable paperwork and a lot of support from HQ. I’d message THS and check your options @legendvictoria #premiummaywellpay

@Cuttlefish Thank you! I was wondering how to navigate this situation. I’ll check out the T&C now.

@Happypets In hindsight, maybe I should have started with the forum versus trying to make this work with the sitter.

The decision just wasn’t sitting well with me so I turned to the forum for feedback after the fact.

Not sure that it really matters. I haven’t heard back from the sitter at all anyway.

@temba Thank you for your feedback. I like your suggestion.

@andrealovesanimals I’m trying to respond to everyone but it is hard to keep up! I do truly appreciate all the amazing suggestions, f/u questions, and feedback from some many members!

I feel we’re not being given all the facts, here. 3 days ago, this thread was all about the sitter springing the question about her boyfriend accompanying her (the title of the thread). Now the OP is saying she okayed this request even before posting this thread? So, why not mention that until 2 days into the thread? If the main concern relates instead to poor communications and no flights yet booked, with the sit still 2 weeks away, that is an entirely different matter. I would suggest asking THS to contact this sitter to ascertain whether there is a problem. For all we know, she could have already booked flights for herself and her boyfriend, and be unaware of this panic. She may be travelling and out of data, and out of wifi range, or a million other things.
