I’m in Vancouver Canada. I was too nervous to try for a third sitter so I called on family for a favour this time.
Thanks PVGemini! Yes, I’m aware that I can decline some applications in order to re-open the listing to new sitters. Both of these sitters who I had confirmed were very highly reviewed with many sits. They were both travellers who had been in my city for awhile (one an expat on extended stay and one staying for several weeks), so the sit would have been local to them. I’m not sure what else I could have done to personally vet how likely they would have been to cancel.
I am also new and came here looking to ask the same thing! And also sorry that you have had the stress of someone cancel.
We are travelling overseas in about a month for 2 months and had a house sitter confirmed since January but yesterday they cancelled citing a change in plans.
The other people who had shown interest are now unavailable and we are completely beside ourselves.
We have re-advertised but not hopeful due to the length of the sit and impending date.
Unfortunately we also have birds which can’t be boarded so are at a loss of what to do.
A “change in plans” is not extraordinary or exceptional circumstances @Skym so at the least please report them to THS HQ so a note is made against the sitter. If you tweak and pause and repost that will help place your sit as “new” for fresh applicants. Hope you find someone new & even better! #fingerscrossed
If she has a cold, she probably needed to test for Covid or RSV if she can’t kick it. In which case, you wouldn’t want her there! A lot of people think they just have a cold but really they have a mild case of Covid but they haven’t tested.
If you had five more applicants right away, that’s a really good sign that people are totally willing to take care of your pets.
