Sitters & Giant Breeds

Hi there
What a lovely message- glad that you have a good time with giants. I think the are wonderful too. Mine is not a Bernadoodle (that’s a Bernese Mountain dog cross with a poodle) mine is a St Berdoodle ( a St. Bernard cross with a poodle). They are v different dogs.

Absolutely gorgeous pup. I’d keep him company anytime!

I love big dogs, I use to have a regular dog walking client who was a Newfipoo, 68 pounds of comic relief.

Personally, I’ve found better “adventure-ability” with my large dogs. Small dogs can’t keep up on longer hikes and such. I also prefer shepherds due to their intelligence and trainability, and they’re far more regal in appearance :slightly_smiling_face:

Comic relief . I gonna use that one.

@Sally1 Whoops!! I just read my post again and saw the typo!! He was 75kg not 175kg!!
That would be a real monster dog!!:joy::rofl:

We owned a Bouvier who was about 85 lbs. She was very gentle with our daughter and her friends. Now she could get very rambunctious if she wanted to run and play. She needed lots of exercise everyday and we were used to playing with her at least 20-30 minutes everyday.

We have had 2 sits now with a pair of Tamaskans who are quite large and the owners have you do a trial sit with them so they can make sure you can handle them. After our first sit we fell in love with these gentle giants.

I think many people like to sit for small lap dogs because they think there easier. But we like the big breeds and would apply for your sit.

It’s so lovely to hear from people who love the big ones! Me too- our big boy is a bundle of comedy love and he is adored in our family and by all the sitters that we have had. He has no idea how big he is though and boy it hurts when he stands on your toe!!

Hey, I’ve had horses use my toes as parking spots! And dogs are easier to move.
Lots of people love the big guys!

I have a 200 lb Mastiff. People are concerned till they meet him. Actually he goes with me to local pet sits.

I am with two at the moment and I have to admit I was a bit scared at first. I still feel a little nervous when their face is an inch away from mine and it’s always me who breaks eye contact first

Hi - We live in Oxfordshire, in a beautiful little village and we have a big dog -Brodi, he’s a Rhodesian Ridgeback and is so gorgeous, but big and bouncy. I wonder how many people have sat for a large breed dog and what issues you have found. We’re just setting up the listing so may not be visible yet.
I’d love to hear your thoughts and tips.
Thanks
Jo.

Hi @JoAllan and welcome to THS and the forum. I’ve just checked out your listing on the app and it looks great. What I’m alerting you to is the descriptions for your photos only can be read on the app and not the website (it’s not your problem but a THS one) so it might be a wise idea to include in your actual listing Brodi’s weight and height for those sitters only accessing the website. All the best!

I can’t see your listing but with big breeds we always ask a lot of questions about behavior, training / obedience, aggression / anxiety, reactivity, leash-training etc. It might help to have those details already in the listing.

Thanks @temba that’s so useful.

Hi Jo
I’m a homeowner not a sitter and I posted the original post about big dogs. I must say that I have just said goodbye to some wonderful sitters. They were a couple and they absolutely loved our big dog Twix. I think he was well behaved so they had a wonderful time together. They fell in love with him- big dogs capture your heart.
