Sitters in Secondary accommodation

Hosts can list sub standard accommodation but they won’t get any applications from sitters . So they will have wasted their membership fee .

So you seem to be saying everyone should do it your way.

Most people like that THS has set guidelines and boundaries. That’s why we’re here.

Yeah, it’s the bait and switch aspect of it that’s really confounding and off-putting. I see similar things where an HO posts a lead photo of a place that’s actually quite far from the actual sit (e.g, NYC landmark when the sit’s in New Jersey) or even gives the place name of the more famous location but the sit’s in an outlying area. That’s duplicitous in my view.

Where have I said everyone should do it my way?
I stated we are all individuals and have different boundaries so communicate these boundaries to the host. Whatever is comfortable between the host and sitter is good.

Agreed! Sometimes flexibility leads to great outcomes.

Yes. You are saying everyone should negotiate things themselves. Many, probably most of us, prefer that THS sets those boundaries in the terms of service, so we don’t have to negotiate everything ourselves. You expressed dislike of those kind of preset rules.

Under your system, HO’s and sitters could “negotiate” anything, even very inappropriate activity. This isn’t good for THS overall, nor for future sitters. There’s good reasons for structure. It’s the same idea as having labor laws vs. every employee having to negotiate with employers as to whether they get paid overtime, get breaks, etc.

We shall agree to disagree

Great response… Did the HO say anything back to this?

Well, I’ve just had another one and this time let them know I don’t do sits where I’m not staying in the main accommodation.

They have a lovely home that will be ‘locked and alarmed’ with no access during your sit, while you stay in a one roomed bedsit over the stable block, while you look after quite a collection of animals. They’ve had a number of previous sitters who sound perfectly happy with this, (it’s a nice location which was perhaps the draw for them, but it’s not far from where I live anyway) but it’s a hard no for me.

yes I have seen these and would never apply. Once I applied and they told me after that I would be in the tiny one room apartment after showcasing a beautiful home with pool. I told them they were unrealistic and greedy. And I declined the sit.

And misrepredesenting the sit, it seems (?)

Greeting bnb guests is against THS TOS… please don’t do it, it makes it suck for the rest of us.

Usually the gorgeous one the sitter won’t be allowed to stay in. Hence the bait and switch thing going on that sitters are taking up in discussion

I think I saw this sit and thought you have to be kidding me?! … was it almost a small farm collection of pets?

It does seem odd they trust the dogs in the main house, alone…but not the sitter(s) that they need to oversee the dogs.
