Recently, we applied for 8 sits which were to commence within the next 4 days. Without exception, we were informed they had arranged for friends or family to care for their pets as had received few or no applications. Also without exception, they left their listings as live.
Why don’t pet parents cancel their listings, once they’ve made alternative plans? It’s a total waste of our time, to apply for last-minute sits (thinking we’ll be helping someone out), only to find that sitters are no longer required.
Has anyone else experienced this?

I applied recently for a last minute sit and she wrote that she had arranged for the next door neighbour’s mother to come and do it as she was panicking about getting anyone and she had forgotten to remove it. I think they just don’t realise that the ad needs to be removed, life gets in the way.

We have applied for last minute sits and got back no reply at all … even up until the start date came the listing remained live , not paused and we heard nothing ….
…this included one sit that was only listed 6 days before …which we applied for as soon as it was listed.
Yes, once, recently. If I had to guess why the HO doesn’t think to delete the dates, I would say they forget. Their trip is due to start soon, they’ve scrambled to make other arrangements for their animals, their focus is on other things. Not excusing forgetting. Yes, it is annoying.

Maybe that was just an excuse and they didn’t think you were the right fit? No offense intended, but unfortunately many people come up with excuses instead of telling the truth.
Yes, this has happened to me on more than one occasion although not for last minute sits as I rarely can do those as am booked ahead. It is very frustrating but the world is full of all sorts of people…..we just have to accept if and move on
Yes, it seems to be somewhat common. I’ve applied to a few where the applications were never read and they never confirmed a sitter. The listings just stay live until the dates pass. These weren’t even last minute.
Yes, that’s happened to me too. I sometimes wonder if the owner has died….
I am curious, were the listings for HOs new to THS or did they have reviews? I have noticed a lot of last minute sits popping up for new members and I can see them making other arrangements when they don’t magically have a sitter in one day. Definitely frustrating to go through the effort of applying for a sit and then learning other arrangements were made or the listing sitting there with no response.
