Day 4 on the smallholding. I have done a washing. Went to the porch to use the Tumble Dryer. This is what happened next.
You gotta laugh!
Last photo, Porch door has to be left open a crack to allow the cat in and out, (he is a farm cat and not allowed in to the main house) but also to keep chickens out.
This chicken saw cats bed as an ideal nest to lay 2 eggs!
for anyone who cannot view the video, I tried shooing her out of cats bed vocally, then by shaking the bed gently, in the end I shook too hard - and lost one of the special “delivery straight to the door”, eggs!
and it has happened again, different chicken.
I heard a lot of cluck cluck clucking coming from garage/shed open ended barn. Another hen who doesnt fancy laying her eggs in designated spot. Her name is Midnight. (Just messaged the owners)
This is just over 5ft up. So I kept checking periodically to see how things were progressing.
A waiting game.
Would I need to use a ladder to collect the egg once finished? Popped out just now. Took a photo. More than one egg.
How do I get them down?
Well she was kind enough to lay them on top of some nylon netting, so with some gentle wiggling and shaking, I got them all down intact. I could have had egg on my face…and head…and shoulders.
7 eggs!!!
Wow. Clever girl.
