Unhappy with a sitter

No, I wouldn’t if it is something that other members need to know. I would discuss it pre-review if it was minor, like forgetting to take out the trash. Misunderstanding what to do with linen or we hadn’t really made a clear agreement. For more serious things I feel it is important to write it in the review. It seems that discussions pre-review often end up in it not being mentioned in a review. That is a problem, as then other members are not informed about possible issues.

It is unfair to members that are great hosts/ sitters if they get same reviews as mediocre/ bad members. The review should be honest and give the right impression of the sit.

Another factor is that some would then give you a bad review in return.

The reviews are now blind. No party will see the review given to them before they have submitted theirs or the 14-day limit is out. Then the review can not be altered (but both can give one answer to the review they got).

I would prefer to eliminate the ”star system.” The reviews in and of themselves are enough. I think we are all seeing that the stars are valueless—some are afraid to give less than five/some think five is only for over & beyond expectations!

Thanking you again Garfield. We regret to say that trying to have a dialogue resulted in us receiving very aggressive and insulting messages. We tried to reassure them that we wanted to clear areas of misunderstanding but are pretty sure we have made the situation worse. Their response shocked us and yet further cemented our suspicions that this had not been a good sit. THS again involved and we have had to block contact with the sitters. Learning a lot from this sit.

I’m so sorry, @Wheppy for this happening when you tried to do the right thing and talk like adults.

You are right about learning, and that would be the way to make the sit of some value - a learning experience. Then it isn’t all wasted.

Oh dear! Always a risk to raise concerns following a sit, prior to receiving a review (for both hosts and sitters). The blind review system allows for both parties to highlight any issues for concern and, if done in a balanced way, can then open the door to further communications if required. In highlighting that you have concerns, if these sitters really are not fair-minded people, they are likely to now leave a negatively-biased review in anticipation of receiving a less than stellar one from you. I hope that’s not the case.
