Unusual situation not sure how to proceed

Hello everyone, I am still brand new. I just finished a three day sit which was simply wonderful. On April 11 I was prepared to arrive in South Carolina for an 11 day sit for two dogs and a cat with a very nice couple that I enjoyed meeting over Zoom two months ago. However today the female homeowner sent me a message explaining an accident that she had which she will need to stay home and recover from. Her husband will continue on the trip they planned and she offered for me to still come and stay with her to help out with the dogs while she is still recovering. She also said she understood if I wanted to cancel. I thought about it however I do not feel comfortable and not mind walking her dogs but I’m not prepared to be someone’s companion especially since I was looking forward to some alone time with the animals. My question is now if I’m the one who cancels does that go against me? She’s not going to cancel on me she’s asking if I want to cancel therefore I’m confused as to how this might portray me as a last-minute person that canceled only 11 days from arrival. Can anybody help me understand if I should worry about this or not? Thank you for your help

Hi, @Maria-LOVES-Animals. Welcome to the forum!

Not at all. You’re not the one cancelling here, it’s them. Things have changed on their end, not yours.
You can’t cancel on the platform but you can ask them to cancel. If, for some reason, they don’t, you can contact THS and they will cancel it for you.

Also if you have premium membership @Maria-LOVES-Animals then it’s within 14 days of the start date so you can potentially make a claim if there aren’t any other sits available nearby for your dates. Hosts have to cancel sits, sitters aren’t able to do it on the system. #hosthabits

No one gets in trouble for canceling.

That was nice of her to tell you that you can still arrive. She knows there are nomads here and didn’t want to leave you without shelter or having to pay for a hotel for 11 days. Like you I would also decline. Sitters do not have the power to cancel once the sit is confirmed. The host just has to click on decline. There will be no public record of this. Once they do you can start searching for the same dates somewhere else without seeing the annoying, “you already are busy during this time.”

Thank you and yes it was very nice of her to extend an offer for me to come and stay with her. Thank you for your advice we did work it out and she did cancel me. I was just panicking because I couldn’t find the answers and she wasn’t answering at the moment but now all is well!
