I can’t judge this based on hearsay, but based on my experience a lot of sitters don’t read the listings all the way through. I’ve had the experience of chatting with people whose jaw just about dropped when I’d mention “medication” or even “wet food 3 times a day.”
It’s even clear to me that not all owners read the sitter profiles which confuses me even more based on questions I’ve been asked during chats.
@Mokina I do exactly the same. Always address all parties. Unfortunately many people are not so courteous! Or they just don’t think its important. I did ask that host (via WhatsApp) why she’d left my husband out of the review and if she would contact THS to get it changed. She refused to do that or even explain! but nevertheless thanked us -both- again!! All very strange.
One other host, many years ago, also left my husband out. We contacted him too and he said the message from THS was to review me (the account holder) so he thought he had to write a review of me only!!! 
This was despite having months of contact beforehand, flying in, overnighting with him, dinner & brekky and nice chats etc. Where is common sense in such situations?!! Anyway he immediately contacted THS and got the review changed.
@Marion we just had a recent sit where the owner, during dinner on our arrival, confessed she had not actually read our profile or any of our reviews!! Her daughter, a fellow sitter, had introduced her to THS and we were her first sitters. She had only read our application message, and all the other apps, discussed it with her daughter and they agreed we were the best choice!! So she chose us entirely based on our application message. Not the usual way obviously but in this case everything worked out very well! And it does highlight the importance of making a great first impression in the application!
However the exact opposite happened for an upcoming sit. We wrote a very short ‘pre-application’ note asking a couple of questions that were deal breakers. We invited the HO to check out our profile & reviews meanwhile. He wrote back, soon after, answering all our questions and asking for a call. So we ended up getting the sit without even properly applying. In that case our profile & reviews did the job for us!
Some people have more luck than common sense.
