I don’t see any ridiculing, just a reasonable comment and some light hearted remarks on what seems to be a strict schedule. Pretty much par for the course I would say.
I wonder if a paid sitter would be happy with that list of duties?
@Rhe for a couple of seconds you had me believing THS had really improved ![]()
@Oztravels the same as F F S
(interestingly I had to put in spaces to be allowed)
Or someone who just ate half a gummy.
And on that note…I thought the ad was kinda cute. ![]()

(Anyone else think maybe we sometimes take things a bit too seriously lately?)
Delta-8 perhaps? Your reply brought back some memories. The wife and I used to get a nice high from half a gummy but eventually realized we’d be paying for it over the next few days. Not worth the trade off especially given we don’t know what that stuff really does to us. But there are times when I think.. maybe just another half a gummy…thanks to you now is one of them.
Alcohol gives you hangovers. (That’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it!) ![]()
In all fairness to Delta 8, we didn’t experience the multi day lethargy until we upped our intake from occasional to regularly.
I was getting so um… attached to it that when I made my yearly trip to the US last April I visited a few vape shops to explore options.
The helpful clerk said why not go with a vape rather than gummies, as the cost of several hundred vapes including the initial equipment purchase was a third the cost of a $50 jar of gummies. The clerk also suggested that the chemicals in gummies are more harmful than vaping although I treat that particular but of advice with a healthy dose of skepticism.
I spent the following week more high than any compatible period in my life including crazy college days.
I was looking forward to my visit at Universal Studios Orlando and riding the coasters and virtual motion rides while high on Delta 8. After stumbling off the highly rated Harry Potter ride with the worst headache of my life and feeling like my brain had just imploded I realized that I wasn’t getting the intended desirable effect. The roller coasters were far worse. In fact looking back on it that evening I realized that the D8 ruined the entire experience. My brain just couldn’t keep up with all the stimulation and plus now I’m old so I gotta be on the top of my game.
At one point I was doing a vape from a cartridge that had at least another 2 hundred puffs remaining. A kid about 20 years old comes up to me and says “hey man can I have some of that?”. As he was taking a hit I made one of my smarter life decisions. I said “Keep it”.
That was a year ago and I haven’t had a funny or a vape since and I don’t plan to.
You just need to set boundaries.
I only drink when I’m alone or with other people.
Agreed. The staying with pets part – yoga and chess were fine, but the bubble bath implies a service that might happen on some pet sits, but shouldn’t be a general expectation.
I’d be interested in seeing something that showed parrellel experiences. People on business trips and vacations. Sitters also having a good time with the pets and homes. You know like it was some kind of …. what’s the phrase … it’ll come to me…. Oh yeah: equal exchange.
Well it probably won’t attract professional owners or sitters
I don’t like that there’s no indication that sitters should be getting anything out of the exchange. It appears that sitters are there to stay with the pets all day and not do anything else. It gives the wrong impression to new HOs. Although, I think it’s the impression that THS wants to convey. They seem to be moving towards being Rover only sitters don’t get paid. Literally, all the THS ads I see are for HOs and they are all focused on low-cost pet care. HOs think they are paying for a THS sitter (membership fee + booking fee) and they go online and choose from a list of sitters.
Personally, I’m finding it difficult to even find sits to apply to because listings have changed from offering an exchange to a more of a one sided job ad. I’m mostly doing repeat sits in locations I enjoyed and paying for accommodations in other places I would like to visit.
I sincerely think it’s just meant to be a silly & light-hearted brand-awareness ad. I’m certain it’s not meant to provide any sort of deeper message or meaning wwt the ethos of reciprocal exchanges or the other more nuanced concepts we try to discuss and sort through here behind the scenes.
Anyway, it gave me a laugh - and these days I appreciate a chuckle even more than usual — as I know you do, @Smiley
@MerryPuppins Sadly, I don’t agree with you. Marketing are doing this deliberately, including making false claims as to what sitters will do. They’re not spending time and money just to humour us. It’s all about pleasing owners who are getting the wrong impression of it being an equal exchange.
I thought it was cute too until the “I hate AI” half of my brain kicked in; ugghhh… I figured they meant to be whimsical about pampered pets. Maybe there will be an ad for sitters in a similar vein?
Everything is open to personal interpretation, it seems, so I do hear the arguments from those who see it as actually advertising “services” from sitters.
@ziggy
I had to re-read the smaller print that this was an actual listing. Did they have applicants?? At least, they put their expectations up front so incompatible sitters can pass. You’d be hard pressed to get out at all, let alone up to 2 hours, with that schedule.
Reminds me of someone I knew once who had her entire day, every day, scheduled to the minute. She was a school bus driver, so she did have to go out at specific times on time, but scheduling what time of day you were going to change the bed, or take the garbage out, seemed a bit much.
(I could use a fraction of that discipline myself tho…
)
@ABGM surprisingly there are no applicants
It looks a lovely sit though in a good area so it’s such a shame about the responsibilities and time factor. Seems a nice HO. Discipline is good and what we all need at times but I do feel this one and the friend of yours whom you referred to is just a little too disciplined. But. It could suit someone, I hope so for the dog’s sake.
@temba sorry, that was another very similar listing nearly as bad to the one in question here. The one in question here has no applicants.
Oops @ziggy, they must have been similar! My apologies for getting it wrong ![]()
