What’s your plan re booking fees?

I hate the fees, and everything they stand for. I have 4 months in my membership left, and I will most likely let my account run out, then accept the THS deal of premium at the price of basic.

Here are my experiences. After the fee got announced, I was quick to look for option. I wanted to do nomador since ages, and I am heading to UK which has many platforms. As I predicted, I did not join any of them. The hassle of creating a new profile, figuring out payment, knowing what to expect, how to apply etc, was just too much. THS is my b*tch and we have a good rapport: I know how things run here. Also I got good sits via THS. UK owners are rather desperate due to volume (I dont sit in London), so I already have all my days filled with decent sits.

I did also join Facebook groups. So much work, no results. The likelihood of being there on time to “apply” for a sit, or at all seeing a fitting sit, is minimal. I posted my own add and did get some interest, but many sitters cross post constantly so even that just drowns in. Also many groups are full of scam posters, and professionals too.

I would only look for other platforms out of spite. Something would need to fuel me. THS is too good, which is of course what they are banking on. As they offer premium at the price of basic, I will take that. At the same time I am still planning an exit, and if I have to either pay the fees or normal price for premium I will have the motivation to leave. So I think I will get rather critical to hosts in my reviews - honest only, of course. But now that the feeling of trust with the platform is gone, I wont give a pass to misinformation, bad hosting etc.

I get your reasoning this far but I don’t get this point. It’s not the owners’ fault that THS is offering poorer quality for higher fees.
I have always thought that “to give a pass to misinformation “ wasn’t the best option but I don’t see the link with THS recent changes.

It is absolutely not the hosts fault.

But the landscape has changed for me (by THS), so have new motivations. I feel like I am not asked to create a nice, friendly environment (=motivated me to be very careful in wording my reviews), to participate in a shared project. In that environment I would private message the host and tip them about something they could do better. In this new environment, where I am not only the product THS sells (as are the hosts), but also the milk cow. The milk cow will now shoot at the platform with the milk, and paint it in new colors. Less consideration for the common project that is THS.

Also I am planning my exit so I dont need to be so worried that leaving a bad review bites me in the butt (by future hosts who are worried I review them justly).

Honesty is the best policy.

Word to the wise - the grace you show when leaving something matters a lot. It really shows your true character.

If you e been holding your tongue up until now and think you’re now ok to let it go…well that usually backfires (at least that was a lesson learned early in life, for me).

So kind of you to offer me a life lesson. I rather make my own mistakes, but I hear your desire to protect me from heart ache.

I have seen a few threads where members state that they have been offered an upgrade to Premium if they don’t cancel.

What I assume is that offer is just for the first year and then the member has to pay the full price for future years

Probably just one year - but/and a lot can happen in a year. Cancelling fees? Doubling fees? Removing lover membership tears and literally forcing everyone to premium? Including x amount of free sits to each tear? Company decides THS is not worth it and just ends it? No-one predicted this fee-madness a year ago (even though we did get the warning in a form of a survey where they asked what would we tolerate).

PS. I have only read that the premium-offer comes after the profile expires.

@anon42303101 didn’t know they had a lovers membership, might look into that one

Just an FYI …

The HOs had to cancel an upcoming sit. This was in the email lingo

‘Your sit starting on [02 Apr 2026](calendar:T2:02 Apr 2026) has been cancelled by the pet parent. If you paid a booking fee, you’ll receive a refund within 5-7 days.’

Becca I would love to join you as well, I am in. I have been looking to join the platform I just can’t justify the fees

I have paid the booking fee twice now but will not be planning any more sits before April or May!

This bit resonated — “the hassle of creating a new profile, figuring out payment, knowing what to expect.” That’s kind of the trap but actually on some ways it doesn’t have to be… gdpr laws were created for this exact issue!

I requested a full copy of my data from two platforms under GDPR — not screenshots, the actual data. Subject Access Requests to both THS and Nomador. Nomador came back with clean files — every review, every date, verification records, the lot. All mine, sitting on my hard drive, doesn’t matter what I do with my membership.

THS went over the 30 day deadline but not by much… and were far more reticent… slower and wanted ID verification first, but they have to comply. It’s the law. You can ask for everything!

Email privacy@trustedhousesitters.com, cite Articles 15 and 20, and they’ve got 30 days.

Doesn’t solve the “where do I go next” question. But it does mean you’re not starting from zero when you get there. Your track record is portable whether THS likes it or not.

Thanks for the info.
I guess you can ask for the data on the last day of your membership and they can then take 30 days to send them to you even though you are no longer a member. Does it work like that?

It’s not tied to membership at all — GDPR applies because they hold your data, not because you’re a paying customer. So yes, you could request it after your membership lapses. But from what I’ve seen on the forum, THS don’t keep data indefinitely after a membership expires — so no reason to wait really. Do it now while everything’s definitely still there

That’s why I suggested the very last day, because everything would be included and the data are still there. Given the reticence THS shows, they might say the have just erased everything. When I cancelled my membership, they said my profile and reviews would be deleted.

One needs to be very clear on wanting the data. Some companies have erased everything, claimed it was a misunderstanding, and just left the customer with no profile and no data. So far THS seems to be returning data, albeit late and reluctantly.

Worth flagging the distinction here between cancelling your auto-renewal and actually deleting your account, as they’re very different things.
If you cancel auto-renewal, THS say your profile and listing are “securely stored away with your account details” — so everything stays intact in a dormant state and you can rejoin later with your history preserved.
If you delete your account, that’s permanent. Their own support page confirms it: your profile, listing, photos, messages, and reviews are all gone for good. You can also request full data removal from their database on top of that.
As ChiaGrowth rightly points out, you need to be very clear about what you’re asking for. Before you cancel or delete anything, it’s worth submitting a Subject Access Request (SAR) under GDPR/UK GDPR. That’s your legal right to get a full copy of all the personal data they hold on you — profile, messages, reviews, the lot. They have 30 days to comply. That way you’ve got your own record of everything, regardless of what THS chooses to keep or delete on their end.
So if you’re thinking of stepping away — whether over the booking fees or anything else — the smart move is: request your data first, then pause or let your membership lapse rather than hitting delete. That way your reviews and sit history stay intact on the platform if you ever want to come back, and you’ve got your own copy as a backup either way.
Once you delete, there’s no getting any of it back.

I’ve requested all my reviews from THS also through a Subject Access Request. The 30 days are nearly up and still nothing. Did you have to chase?
