What would you do - sitter hasn't confirmed and is not responding

My first time using the platform. Had 5 applicants, 2 withdrew and I and chose one from the remaining 3. We had a FaceTime call and exchanged messages on the platform. I confirmed him but he has stopped responding. It’s been a week since I sent the request and still shows it waiting for him. I sent a follow up but no response. I am as much worried that something happened to him as I am concerned about moving forward. What would you do?

Quite honestly, I would move on. Most of us who apply for sits and have a facetime call will know whether we would like to sit for someone or not after that call, to be offered it and no response after a week I would say move on, most of us would have responded right away. Have you read this persons reviews from other sits they have done?

Hate to tell you but I think you’ve been ghosted. He decided after the call it was not a fit or he applied to more than one sit and was offered another one he felt was a better fit for him. Why would you want someone who does not reply to your messages? What if he is on your sit and you need to get a response from him quickly and he gets back to you days later. I would have just wrote you back and either told you I accepted another sit or I didn’t feel after the call it was a fit. He chose to just ghost you. Start looking for another sitter.

If after a few days he didn’t accept your official request for him to pet sit, then he’s not interested. Also, the fact that he’s not responsive is a huge red flag. Find someone else regardless if he responds back to you.

If he has accepted another conflicting THS sit, the dates will show as crossed out on his availability calendar. Otherwise who knows? But I do agree with others who believe that you are being ghosted.

Quickly contact the two that you declined out of the 3. Hopefully when you declined these you sent a friendly message saying maybe next time. Pick one and try to arrange a video chat via WhatsApp ASAP. Don’t contact both at this stage. If the one you contact says no thanks THEN contact the 3rd one. If it doesn’t work out delete your listing and re-list so that it appears as a new listing. Best wishes.

Move on, if it’s been longer than 24 hours I’d be getting cautious as to whether the particular sitter is dedicated to your sit/pets/location.

There’s someone much better out there for you.

Thanks - I just wonder why he wouldn’t just decline or withdraw. It seemed out of character from the previous exchanges we had. Not having any experience with this platform, I wasn’t sure if this was normal or out of character.

People are weird at times, or they lose their phone, or they didn’t renew their membership…. 1000 reasons.

OR, they’re just part of the current culture, which sees Communication as an eccentric bolt-on.

Did you decline the other sitters? If not, and if either seemed suitable, I’d suggest messaging to find out whether they’re still interested. It’s the sitter who confirms the sit, not the pet parent, so nothing is set in stone until that’s done and registers on your dashboard as a confirmed sit.

Move on, it’s not your problem to worry about him.

Relist and find someone else
