Where to stay in between SITS

We are good housesitters, but not good house sharers

We have found the Premier Inn hotel chain in the UK to be very good value if we just want one night. Around £45 per night, rooms are always clean with free WiFi & tea/coffee making (no fridge in the cheap rooms) & bedsvery comfortable. Breakfast is pretty good at £9.50pp. Staff are always very good.

Try the facebook page ā€œHost a Sisterā€. It is brill for those gaps.

Hi @heartgirl - We look for longer sits , ideally one month but anything over 2 weeks will tempt us. We fill in gaps with short sits which is when our overlapping tends to occur.

We try to follow a very rough route so no jumping from Scotland to London and then back to Scotland

We left our permanent address in September 2020 with the idea to travel using Airbnbs for accommodation, then in May 2021 discovered THS. This is a record of the dates, locations and styles of all our stays so far…

This is part of the adventure and freedom one finds. I think what others have said covers it very well. I would only add, don’t worry too much. Things have a way of working out, either with last minute sits, extended sits before and after and fun times at Airbnb and hostels.
You will meet so many extraordinary people who will be thrilled to share their experiences and expand your possibilities.
Have fun!

@Smiley - Some would not agree

I can recommend: https://www.easyhotel.com/
I’ve only used them in London but you’ll see they’re in other countries besides the UK. Part of the easyJet airline company.
Rooms are small and basic but very clean, with small en-suite. You pay extra for a window, extra for a tv remote control so, if you don’t need those you’re quids in. The longer in advance you book the cheaper it is.

Yes, Nomador has these. We have recommended them to THS more than once, but as you know, THS doesn’t pay much attention to sitters’ suggestions or requests.

@ Maisy Have you used them, hosted yourself? I’ve never heard of them.

Not personally, but I know several people who have. Just have a scroll through the posts on their Facebook page.

I just followed them, also 5W (Women Welcome Women Worldwide).
Thanks for the tip about hosting sisters.

@Angela-HeadOfCommunity Reading through these posts made me wonder whether THS could collect and publish a list of names and locations of HOs and Petsitters who would be willing to host sitters for some short amount of time between their ā€œgigs.ā€ I mean we’re all part of a pre-vetted community with a massive love of animals in common.
I don’t have a fancy house, but I do have a guest room, and I’d be happy to host a single or couple for a few days when they’re between sits (on those rare occasions I am home!).
If you could pull that together, that would really be quite an added benefit.
A thought. Something for a survey!

Hi @Edith this has been suggested before, it may even have come from you?

Ideas and suggestions which could benefit our community are always worth consideration … thank you, I share this with the team.

No, I don’t think it was me, but I’ve been wrong before.

OMG…I want to grow up to be like you!! awesome…how fun! we just completed our first SIT and my hubby wants to ā€œretireā€ cuz their dog was so fantastic and the home amazing and clean and comfy in a beach town we love!!1

Rather than from @Edith, I think this suggestion was brought up above by @HelloOutThere. Let’s see if I can link to it gracefully:

BTW, Edith, that’s very kind of you.

I rent a tiny home, but I could house someone in a pinch. Operative word may be that last one, because it could be tight!
