I’ve had a fair few gaps this winter and unfortunately there were not enough sits where I am that coordinated date wise, so i found myself filling quite a few gaps. Typically I alternate between airbnb and booking.com for accommodations, since I’m a genius member at booking.com I’ve been fairly lucky with rates. Some gaps were intentional as i wanted free time…
I’ve had luck with Hotels Tonight app. If you can wait until it’s later in the evening, you can oftentimes get a good discounted rate. There’s also a feature that allows you to watch the rates so you can be notified of price drops.
I’ve built up some loyalty with a couple of Airbnbs in areas where I go to visit family which have two night minimums. When I know I need a place for only one night, I will write to them and let them know. They will very often accommodate me because they know me. I strive to be a very clean and considerate guest, so we have a level of trust with each other.
I agree with others about the Premier Inn, it’s my go to in the UK (I wish they were in the US). Good prices, clean, and consistent. I just booked a couple nights at one in Inverness for September. Also, the YHAs in the UK are great.
In the US, I use Airbnbs, I can typically get a room for $40-$60 a night. Or I stay at Hilton properties since I’m a gold member, not the cheapest option, but I save up my honors points for free nights. I have a free 5-night stay coming up this summer using my points.
Another thumbs up for Premier Inn in the UK. They are very consistent and we’ve used them for about 20 years or more. Just back from the one in Inverness! The one by the river in the centre of town.
@Furryfriends I’ll be at the one on the river too, great location! I stayed there several years ago and am looking forward to returning to Inverness.
