Who do you send invitations to sit to?

Hi @Mindy1,

Welcome to the forum.

Have you published your listing for the dates you want?

You can briefly pause it and republish it and it will appear as new.

It can also help to link your listing to your forum profile, as others have suggested.

Good luck.

@Mindy1, welcome to the THS Forum.
I’d agree with suggestions from @Garfield.

  • Blind invitations almost never work - we’ve received scores of them and accepted zero
  • Best option is a great listing - add your THS listing URL to your THS Forum profile - there’s plenty experienced folks on the THS Forum that may provide suggestions
  • Create a backup plan - “date quickly approaching” seems near-term trip
  • Housesitting community is remarkably diverse - some sitters seek short, local housesits vs some long, distant housesits vs all sorts of otherwise
  • THS Forum “last minute sits” - when eligible, highlight your THS listing on THS Forum

favourites is correctly spelt. This is a UK based site.

favorites is the US Spelling.

Probably half the sits I’ve done have been either local or semi-local invites, or invites from listings I’ve favorited, or repeat invites. Some because I was newer & gaining experience/ratings, some just because the person seemed nice & was new to THS or in a bind; I try to help people out where I can. It always helps if you have a nice place in an interesting location, of course.

Everyone does this for different reasons; don’t assume an invite won’t work. Look for mature- or reliable-sounding locals new to THS. Check to see if anyone has favorited your listing. You won’t get a “yes” if you don’t try.

If I have favorited the home, it means you live close to one of my children who are scattered across the USA. I have received three invites and have only rejected one because I was already on another sit. If you live close to my kids I’m going to try and make the sit work. I also will accept local sits if I get any invitations as that helps with getting reviews. If plane tickets are required I would need that invite to come in a few months before hand.

I’m always incredibly flattered to get a sit invitation! It’s only happened twice; one I couldn’t do because of the dates and the distance. But the other turned into a fantastic experience and the HOs are still good friends. I know many old sitter hands find it irritating or pointless, but it just makes this medium-experience sitter feel wanted and appreciated, regardless of whether I can do the required dates… So please, HOs, don’t give up on sending them out!
As for the daft old spelling thing… I’m a British pedant with a keen interest in linguistics - who just LOVES Americanisms and American spellings. Maybe we should have a thread on it…?

I’ve only used invite for last minute sits. We live in Northern Thailand and most sitters are people from Europe who like to stay in this country for a while. In case of a last minute sit, I select sitters in Northern Thailand. After the first time I found out that 90% of the sitters did not actually live here, but never updated their hometown in their profile. Now I also check reviews, to see if they had recent sits in the area. That worked well, but the success rate is still almost zero. So don’t expect too much of invitations.

Misspelled? You mean spelt the British way? :face_blowing_a_kiss:
