Thanks for answering me
Hello,
I always leave my feedback immediately after the end of the sit, without waiting what the owner thinks of me
But, for now, I have no complaints.
All people are different. Not everyone has the same standards or the same sense of order.
Tell yourself that you might have had the worst and the best is yet to come
And I hope you feel not let down by yourself if you don’t let the bad feedback😉
@liz, I’ve often thought this would be a great idea and a way around many sitter’s inability to leave an honest but negative review. One sitter would must probably be willing to be very honest in private with another potential sitter.
The HO left our review so this is what I eventually settled on for them - with a ( very generous) 4 thumbs up. I think it is factual without being too harsh and by mentioning the cleanliness and not giving a 5 thumbs up my conscience is clear that I have left a warning to any future sitters.
…was very friendly and really easy to communicate with. On our arrival, we had to do a little more cleaning ourselves than expected. The apartment is in a great location - a short walk to Walthamstow central train/tube station. The cats had their individual characters but were both lovely.
Well done @Colin , an excellent review.
Gracious on your part, but I would certainly catch on if I was considering a sit at that home. Well done.
Out of curiosity, what was the HO’s review of you?
Colin and Kayro sat my two cats while I was away. They were a pleasure and fantastic throughout - great communication leading up to the sit. I felt at ease and extremely comfortable with them in my home with regard updates. The house was left clean and tidy, I couldn’t ask for more. I’d welcome them back any time! Highly recommend
This is a great and important topic.
In addition to public reviews, perhaps sitters should have the option to privately give scores for cleanliness, communication, etc? And perhaps there could also be a way to alert the THS team privately about negative sit experiences and have THS give a ‘warning’ to owners or ask them to include info on the listing about cleanliness level?
I must say that I feel uncomfortable with the idea that a negative sitting experience could be partially blamed on previous sitters for not leaving reviews. Yes, it’s a problem when nobody has the heart to leave a bad review, but each individual should feel free to choose whether or not to leave a review, without worrying about whether a subsequent sitter will track them down online.
I do think Colin’s review is a great example for all of us about how to leave a gently critical review.
I am adding “cats in Walthamstow” to my mental list of “be careful”.
I did a wee search for Walthamstow sits w 2 kitties pondering if I could locate the sit in q.
I did stumble upon this sit @Angela_L which mentions a swap.
Morning @TheMapleKiwi … Thanks for bringing this to our attention. We’ll pass it to the MS team for checking. Have a lovely Sunday
This is nothing to do with the sit I did
I don’t want to slur all Walthamstow home owners - All you need to do now is to check their past reviews

Hi again @cas in addition to welcoming you to our community forum thank you also for your feedback on this topic, like many others you have raised some interesting points for discussion.
Definitely. Lots of lovely sits in Walthamstow! In fact, so many awesome sits in England itself. I"m sure I could stay a year and have one sit follow the other.
We have done nearly 40 sits and had the worst sit ever (from another platform). I struggled with being uncomfortable leaving a bad review. The owner wasn’t embarrassed or uncomfortable to have us in their home with these conditions - so why should I be uncomfortable stating them? I was more uncomfortable dealing with mold, filth, stained linens, unmaintained and broken everything. I reported them to the platform as well. I felt violated and no sitter should have to put up with it! We both feel a bit of PTSD afterwards. We had an upcoming sit that we cancelled - there were red flags - we thought "how bad can it be’? We now know it can be really, really bad. Don’t let the owners off the hook.
Hi @Tonibme welcome to our community Forum and I’m so sorry that your first interaction and contribution to the Forum is about this really unpleasant experience, no sitter should feel uncomfortable by the poor condition of any sit. It can leave a sitter feeling very used and questioning their very pet and housesitting lifestyle, I hope you manage to overcome your current feelings and situation, remembering that most sits are everything we expect and often more.
As you say this recent experience happened through another platform but for TrustedHousesitters any issue at all should be reported to the Membership Services Team who will take the situation up with the members involved.
Once again I am sorry, we hope you can enjoy being on the forum and connecting with members from around the world, sharing good memories and helping you with support through this situation.

Hi Toni,
That really sounds like the sit from h*ll (did the site really just tell me not to use naughty words?)- good for you for not letting it put you off permanently. Was that sit after the 40 or early on?
Our less-than-perfect sit was nothing like yours; it was just really dirty. If I find myself feeling violated/taken advantage of then believe me, I’ll squawk about it. The longer I sit, the more I am aware of red flags - “lived in” is fine; “complete pig sty” is beyond the pale (with no disrespect intended to pigs, which are very clean animals).
