1st time sit: HO and previous sitter put me in a tough spot

We go ahead and ask even we risk losing the sit -we ask before even writing a proper application - if the answer is dog can’t be left ever or only for 2 hours - it’s not a sit that we want anyway .

Is there even a place in the welcome guide for this? I’m looking at mine, and the only thing I can think of is the “Anything else” section for each individual pet. Am I missing something?

I was just asking what @Campbell meant, not implying the WG can be shared in the system before confirming the sit, if that is what you mean.

I would say most relevant information can be obtained in the process of communication previous to confirmation. The Welcome Guide can then register that information, plus practicalities to refer to during the sitting. It certainly should be adequately updated and shared soon after confirmation.

Silver sitters- how do you ask without putting in an application ? I’m confused by your comment . To all that responded, thank you for your time , ideas and suggestions !

@Campbell
We tap on the “ apply to sit “ to ask the homeowner a question.

We write “ before we apply properly please can you let us know how long your dogs can be left alone for as it’s not stated in your listing ?”

Hi Temba. I did reword that part. Thank you. 1 was a 3yr old pup. But 1 was a 16yr old pup with bladder issues, half blind and half deaf. the older one was very sweet, but just required a lot of care.

Thank you @Silversitters for your help. The HO did mention dogs ages during interview. Also mentioned that they have a tendency to go in the house, but they had just stated house training them. The HO shared that they could be left alone for a full work day. That wasn’t a problem for them. You are right I definitely did ask enough questions. But for the 1st sit, may not have had a frame of reference either. I for sure underestimated the amount of work needed for these animals care - I did do the work because that’s what I committed to do, I just wanted to be able to also make other future sitters aware of what they could be in for with the pair. Thank you for your suggestions.

I ended up doing a Pros and Cons list, both for the house and for the animals. I did it in list form. Of course started with the positives. Thank you for this suggestion. I’m currently on a sit and have started a pros and cons list while sitting so I can make those notes easier for the review. :slightly_smiling_face:

We completely agree @Marion Communication is definitely a two-way street and we have learned to communicate MORE rather than less and HOs really seem to appreciate it.

We have done two split sits (currently on our second one) and both times, we arrived to a clean home, but the floors hadn’t been cleaned. We took pictures (left blackish residue/dirty feet) and shared with owners stating a polite message to the tune of Hey, we know you haven’t been home, but wanted to let you know that the floors are in dire need of a cleaning! Lol. We just politely say that we understand that this isn’t your fault and will take care of the cleaning. The HOs in our case have always been extremely happy that we are taking care of it and apologetic.

That being said, if we arrived to a house that was a total mess…maybe mention a cleaner. But a few things, we have just learned goes with the territory and risk of split sits!
