4 star or 5?

You are so right. The fear (on both sides) makes people question the validaty of even great detail-oriented reviews and try to read things in that may or may not be there. I’m not sure how much the new system will help, but I think you should be honest, but very detailed, objective, and unemotional about what happened.

I wrote a review once about how the actual responsibilities were far more than the listing said. After that the owners changed their profile to a more honest one… so all in all I think my review has helped others to have a clearer idea of that pet sit than I did.

I think in some cases, the changes could be accomplished (on both sides) by private feedback not in the review. I recently stayed at an Airbnb and was reminded that they have an automatic feature for private feedback. In that case, the feedback would have been so minor I wouldn’t have bothered, but I think if a host was nice, and appeared to be trying, I might give them the benefit of a doubt and say something privately rather than deduct stars. The problem with a review is that it is there forever, long after something has been fixed. However, in this case where there are a string of sits with NO reviews, maybe it should be public.

Yes Marion, that would be the best case scenario, but not everyone is open to dialogue and not every host is nice.
