Advice needed re confirmed sitter

Hi,
I need advice. I had a confirmed sitter as of early May. The sit starts this Friday 6/13. The sitter had agreed to come to my house this past Sunday to meet my pet and get a walk through of the house as we will be leaving before she arrives to start the sit on Friday.
I reached out on THS about 9 days ago just to touch base about the upcoming visit and confirm the time. She did not respond. A couple of days later I texted her the same message on her personal phone. No response.
This past Friday evening I called her. She answered, told me she was busy and would call me back. I quickly stated I just wanted to confirm the time for Sundays visit. She stated it was 1:00 and she would see me then.

She never showed up on Sunday nor did she contact me.
I sent her a message today on THS and her cell phone. I told her I was disappointed in how this has gone but that I was going to have to cancel our agreement for the sit as she was not responding to any of my attempts to communicate.

I have reached out to THS as I have never had a situation like this and am not sure how to handle it. Not to mention my vacation starts in 4 days and I have no sitter.

Any help/advice is much appreciated!

Thanks,
Donna

Welcome to the forum Donna . Sorry to hear of your predicament and poor experience with this sitter.

You can call the Urgent Support 24/7 Phone Number shown on your dashboard .

You can post your sit in the last minute section of the forum . (Click on link below )

Have your Plan B ready in place in case you can’t get a last minute sitter. I see that you are a Premium member that’s good news as you may be covered by the Sit Cancellation Plan - which will pay for alternative pet care minus a deductible - ask the agent on the Urgent Support Line to talk you through the steps for claiming this. You need to contact them within 24 hours of the sit being cancelled .

https://support.trustedhousesitters.com/hc/en-gb/articles/360015619898-What-is-the-Sit-Cancellation-Plan

Also once you have sorted the alternative arrangements for care of your pet, you may also want to raise a Member Dispute about this sitter’s lack of communication which has left you without a sitter at the last minute.

Take screenshots of your messages of the call log to your sitter where you have tried to contact them. This will be part of your evidence to support a member dispute investigation and show that you tried to contact the sitter on multiple occasions.

All the best in getting a solution so that your pets will be well cared for and you can enjoy your holiday . Please report back to the forum on how you get on .

I’m sorry this happened @dland44192 . Although it is so that all members should have a plan B, we should also communicate and do our best to not put others in a bad spot. So strange that you couldn’t properly get in touch.

I’ve seen your listing and it seems a lovely and easy sit in a nice location, but ofc 4 days is not much, so I would look into alternative care.

As Silversitter say - if you are a Premium member be sure to reach out to the urgent line and get instructions. To be reimbursed it is very important to follow the instructions to the point, as it often is with insurances.

Best of luck!

@dland44192 that is scandalous, honestly, some people just seem to completely lack a range of skills and decency. So sorry this happened to you. This sitter should be reported. Fingers crossed you find another sitter very soon.

I’m so sorry this has happened to you. Please do follow the advice given and also report the sitter. We don’t want people like that on THS. Good luck and please let us know here how you get on.

Ooof so sorry this happened to us a day before a sit began and it sucks that you’re going through it :(.

A few things you can do:

-Post the sit in the ‘last minute sits’ here on the forum asap
-Search local sitters and invite them
-Reach out to a wider pool of sitters and filter by date.
-Rover a cat visit a day so that the litter is clean and Ollie gets attention
-Ask a family member

Oh & report the sitter!!!
Best of luck!

Hi Silversitters,
Thanks for the quick response. I called the Urgent Support 24/7 line as suggested. Unfortunately they stated that line was for urgent ongoing matters and they could not help me but would pass my request for help to someone who would reach out ASAP.(I feel this is an urgent ongoing matter as I have 3 days left to find a sitter but?)

So I’m wondering if someone can help me post the sit in the last minute section of the forum? I tried but I’m not very computer savvy and I’m confused by the instructions.

You stated I needed to contact THS within 24 hours of the sit being cancelled. I have tried multiple times since I cancelled the sit yesterday. I tried the chat and after many back an forths with the AI chatbox it finally said a representative would reach out to me via e mail which has not happened yet. And I spoke to the urgent care person today.
I think I boosted my listing yesterday and I am actively working on a plan B. I’m hoping getting my listing in the last minute section might help.
Thanks for any help!

Work with the little ai chat and ask for a human. This usually sets help up.

In the meantime post your sit in the last minute section.

sends like others helped already so I’m trying to delete.

Where is the sit needed? I’m headed to NC and if it happens to be there, I might be able to assist. Forgive me if it’s included in other messages.

The link to the listing is in the OPs forum profile.

Your listing shows as «Currently no sitter is needed». So no sitter would be able to contact you, as you haven’t any published dates.

I have a sitter!! Thank you all for your help/advice. Boosting the sit did the trick thank goodness! I will follow up with a member dispute.
Thanks again!

Thanks for the response. I received an application earlier today, we chatted and we have confirmed! So no sitter needed and hopefully it will stay that way this time.
