Applying a second time to the same sitting

Hi all,

A couple of years ago I applied for a sitting. I was invited to a phone call, after a few days I was informed that the PP decided to go ahead with another sitter.

Now I see the same sitting advertized with new dates.

Has anybody experienced the same and if yes, would you apply again for the same sitting?

Have applied to a sit two times - they had offered the sit to a previous sitter on one occasion and I was offered the sit on the second time round. I’ve been declined two times for another sit and intend to check the review later to see whether it was a return sitter - in which case I might re-apply. If not I will not apply again.

We have recently confirmed a sit we originally applied to a couple of years ago. The hosts reply back then seemed positive but they had already begun talking to an applicant who had applied more quickly than we had, and decided to go with them.

When we applied for the second time, I made reference to our previous contact. We had a video call the following day and then confirmed the sit.

I would probably only apply a second time if the HO had acknowledged my first application and shown interest- e.g they liked us but had already srarted contact with and/or chosen someone else. If they’d declined us without comment I’d probably just scroll on.

@Mokina yes we have done this . We first check any reviews that have been left since we last applied .

We are actually on a sit now - we applied for the same sit last year and weren’t the chosen ones - but this year we are . Great location for us , great sit . We are happy, hosts are happy, pets are happy .

The problem now is that you cannot see what you have written in the past. The dashboard just says “You have contacted them before”
On 4 occasions now I have applied for sittings not knowing what has happened before.
It is embarrassing and I keep raising this but nothing gets done.

I would never apply for a sit again if I had been turned down the first time without any clear reason. It happened twice that someone declined me because previous sitters reached out and took over the sit. Both times, the homeowners later contacted me to ask if I would be available for their next sit.

One time, I was supposedly rejected because it would be easier to have a sitter from the area, but I think the homeowner was put off by the fact that I had asked so many questions in my application.
There are so many sits available on this platform, so much choice, that I really don’t need to try my luck again. After all, it’s an exchange, I’m not begging for someone to be happy to have me as a sitter.

HI @Itchyfeet
I understand the frustration of applying multiple times for sits. It’s helpful to know past details. I also find It annoying that you can’t see how many people have applied after you do and the it isn’t yet reviewing This information can be useful, especially if some time has passed since your application. I recently considered withdrawing an application, but before I did, I received a message for a video call because they wanted to offer me the sit. The platform has changed significantly in many ways.
Not so user friendly but this is only my opinion :slightly_smiling_face:

@Mokina
Hi! I personally don’t have any problem applying for a sit a second time if they treated me decently. As long as they had notified me of their previous decision and in your case, had felt good about them the first phone call, I wouldn’t hesitate. I’ve had a couple of times where it worked out well. On one, we actually ended up with sitting twice for them on Crete after a previously declined application and have been invited back.
If I just get decline with no discussion, I won’t apply again.

I wouldn’t apply again if I didn’t know why I was declined.

@Itchyfeet I have access to all previous conversations with HOs including this one.

@Mokina I think @Itchyfeet is referring to when you want to apply for a sit you’ve applied to before. At the time of applying you cannot see the previous dialogue. But it will appear as soon as you submit your application! Sometimes it can be rather embarrassing especially if you have no memory of previous contact and write to them as if they are completely new people to you!:flushed_face:

I wonder whether hosts can see the previous messages exchanged, even if sitters can’t.

I can see previous messages I exchanged with HO? I am a sitter.

How far back can you see messages with hosts? I can see ones in my inbox, but I archive all else and haven’t checked those.

I can see all messages I have ever exchanged.

@Itchyfeet it is indeed very annoying that the only way to see the previous messages before submitting the application is to open your inbox in another tab and scroll through previous messages to find it.

In this case, I was able to narrow it down a little, as it was a location we do not apply to very frequently, so I had a rough idea when I might have applied.

Also we are not full time sitters so probably have made less applications than some. The more sits we do, the harder it will become to track down previous messages.

I know what you mean @Lokstar and what @Itchyfeet meant, I can see all previous conversations prior to a possible second application.
I can browse all the Inbox and check all the messages exchanged with all the HOs I’ve been in contact with.
Unless I’ve completely misunderstood your comments?
