Are you impacted by recent Travel Restrictions?

Hi everyone,

You are no doubt aware of the recent challenges happening in the world.

As a result, this situation appears to be very fluid as travel restrictions may be applied impacting those in the impacted region as well as those attempting to travel through it.

If you have been affected, I recommend staying in contact with your sitter/owner as best you can with any updates.

As suggested here by @Nofurbabies, our amazing Community may be able to support an unexpected challenge or delay.

Our Member Service teams are also available, and you should reach out to your travel provider for the best information available at the time.

EDIT: Follow the guidance provided by local authorities and (if required) consult the official travel advice offered by your government.

EDIT 2: Owners can also share listings in the forum’s ā€˜Last Minute Sits’ category, if they’re due to start within the next 10 days. :+1:

When there’s volatility like war or terrorism, things can change on a dime. It’s good to check for consulate or state department (whatever that’s called in each country/your country) travel and security updates.

Some consulates also like to know when their citizens are in country, so they know if they might have X numbers to evacuate or such in mass emergencies. For such possibilities, you can check online and see whether you can register your presence. Or there might be alerts you can sign up for.

Ho, all; I’m an experienced sitter who lives in the Seattle area. I’ll be in town until the 17th March and may be able to help with emergency petsit coverage if a local host is delayed or unable to get home & your sitter can’t stay over…DM me.

FYI, someone posted on the Facebook group:

Good Morning fellow sitters. I saw a listing that broke my heart this morning. Perhaps someone can help in SW France. The family is stuck in Thailand and can’t get home due to airspace being closed in the Middle East. Their sitter extended but has to get back to their home. Look for listing in Nerac France, it looks lovely.

@Maggie8K I always check for sittings in France as I drive through all the Country when I travel to Ireland and then I get back.

Unfortunately, this area is quite far from the route and I won’t be leaving until end of May. I really hope that they can find somebody who can help out.

Yep. We got caught on the wrong side of Doha to get home. It has been ā€œinterestingā€. Qatar Airlines was eventually rescheduling ticketed passengers for later this week. Some folks we encountered foolishly or wishfully believe their new itinerary. I fear they will be delayed in their travels for longer than this week.

We had a lot of good luck on a trip haunted by bad luck. Our timing getting back to WiFilandia happened on the 28th when Qatar Airlines waffled all day before declaring all flights canceled. But we did not wait for Qatar Airlines and fought through terrible and intermittent WiFi for hours to identify alternate routes home. We lucked out and were able to book flights 2 days later. The WiFi headaches cost us a few thousand $ more and 1 added day’s delay. But we noted very soon thereafter that all flights to anywhere were fully booked through the week with 1 or 2 exceptions for economy seats at prices that would have normally been very high for first class.

On the home front, we fell back on our plan B for the extra 2 days travel.

The Trip Interruption insurance claim is going to be tedious and, based on past experience, won’t resolve for 4+ months.

Unequivocally, it’s been a great trip. The plenty of challenges encountered even before The Idiocy plus The Idiocy have been short term pains but memory of the discomforts will fade and leave us with incredible memories. We are thankful and :folded_hands: for the people and countries impacted by true pain and suffering.

Watched Simon Caulder (stuck in Australia) interview a lady farmer from the UK that was meant to fly home last Friday via Qatar but has been stuck there due to the situation. Apparently her husband and her need to get to their UK farm asap so she has booked 2 one way last minute flights via the US in economy for £9k!!
Simon explained that there is a real capacity issue for many long haul carriers due to planes and crew being misplaced and only being able to fly one way from the Southern Hemisphere at the one.
