Battle Loyal?

How important do you rate loyalty in a dog?
In your experience which breed of dog showed most loyalty?

After having a Siberian Husky for 16 years I agree re lack of loyalty! Our husky didn’t think twice about running off when our door was open. She preferred to hang out with the nearby “coyotes” but always returned after a weekend

@Highfive, funny post! We’re not sure about the concept of loyalty in context of housesitting. Loyalty to whom?

That said, there are some dogs on your graphic for which we would not even consider housesitting. Personal choices, but not for us. But we’ve housesit for multiple breeds on your graphic.

We perceive preference is more about pet training and human behaviour than loyalty. As per strapline of Cesar Milan, ‘The Dog Whisperer’, then ‘I rehabilitate dogs and train humans’ seems notably apt. Well trained dogs are a real treat to housesit.

I suppose I mean focus on the human, leader of the pack. Stick with the walker when distractions arise. We are temporary as sitters but I still find some dogs accept that idea well.
I’ve never sat a husky or Red Setter but I hear they are quite scatty.
I generally bond well with most breeds which is why I enjoy the variety. I’ve seen some very impressive German Shepherds and Malinois. Also some great working Spaniels and Cocker Spaniels and Border Collies.

Dogs are more loyal than humans. I say that, because if you treat a dog well, it will stick with you. Meanwhile, you hear about or see people who betray or ditch people who’ve been good to them, like even in marriages or longtime friendships.

Of course, people are much more complex and can be much more of a pain to deal with, depending on circumstances. It’s easier to love and trust pets, because they’re simpler.

Totally agree. I try to be as loyal to my dog as he is to me. I think I’m getting ODD !
