Your listing looks nice and Flexie seems like a lovely kitty. I’m just down the road from you in Chelmsford and quite like staying in local-ish places so would normally have applied. The timing might be the issue this time as @Kootenaigirl suggests, I’m headed out for my Christmas sit on the 21st.
Not sure if Leigh has any Christmas events but maybe worth pointing them out if so to catch someone’s eye who is just browsing. Also, Leigh is such a lovely seaside town, people might not be aware that it’s quite different from other UK or Essex seaside towns, so maybe an idea to point out more highlights (safe environment, the little local fish stands, etc).
Flexie is gorgeous and your listing is great. You seem to have a lovely home in what sounds like a great location. Your listing is also family friendly, opening it up to a wider range of sitters.
It may be that your dates are just a little too near to Christmas. We start our Christmas sit on 17th December. I’ve favourited your listing so that I will be notified of any future dates.
Ok, thanks for your reply. Your comments def make sense. Will have a look to add that extra information. And also good feedback to know it’s something you would normally apply for! Thanks again!
Thank you for your response. Yes, I think you may be right. Still nothing!
I have clicked on the link to have a look at the listing but it doesn’t work??
Thanks Debbie, means a lot knowing it may just be the dates!
@Twitcher Ahh maybe because I was adding in those suggestions? I have finished now!
@Katie2 - still not working for me. Not just yours, quite a few links. Hope all goes well.
Hmm, that’s not good! Maybe that’s why I don’t have any applications lol
I can see your listing, but I have to copy-paste the URL. If you modify the link slightly in your forum profile, I think it’ll let us just click to open it.
For example, @Therese’s link starts with:
but yours starts with just:
I.e., try adding
You can test it yourself by clicking on your name in any topic. If the link is valid, it’ll be underlined and you can click on it. Below are Therese’s and yours:
That’s exactly what I’m thinking. Hopefully someone will be found as it’s a lovely area
Thanks @geoff.hom - I’m going to try this
Sorry @geoff.hom , where do I go to amend this?
I have checked, and your link is correct. Thank you @geoff.hom for your help.
Members will have to copy and paste your link into a new tab at first. It’s a Discourse algorithm based on your activity. Essentially, you need to browse through the forum consistently for a bit to ‘unlock’ it.
I hope this helps.
Hi Debbie, I see your listing is now showing as you having received 2 applications - Hopefully this means that you have now found a great sitter?
Gosh, I feel a bit silly now. @Therese, thank you for the insight. And @Katie2, sorry for any confusion. Always learning!
For future reference, here’s some info I wish I’d known before :
The TH forums use a program called Discourse. Discourse uses something called “trust levels”: Understanding Discourse Trust Levels
We all start at Trust 0. According to the link above, one thing Trust 0 can’t do is:
- Have actual links in the ‘about me’ field of their profile (will be silently and temporarily converted to plain text)
When we get to Trust 1, we earn the “Basic” badge and get an automatic message:
After getting to Trust 1 and earning the Basic badge, any links in our profile should work.
How to get to Trust 1? The link above says the default is:
- Entering at least 5 topics
- Reading at least 30 posts
- Spend a total of 10 minutes reading posts
@Colin Thanks for your message. Yes - have had two applications now which I am very happy about, but strangely I have responded to them and they haven’t replied! Let’s hope they’re just busy! I am not getting a straightforward run here haha!
I would think the problem is simply you have left it too late!! Obviously there could be many reasons for that but asking now just before Xmas is just too short notice. Had you asked a month or so ago your chances would have ben much better.
This looks like a brilliant sit, very appealing. Gorgeous home to jump into for however long. There’s so many sits for Christmas and NY - for London alone there was over 170 and it could just be that there’s not enough sitters. I can’t see all 170+ London sits finding someone within THS - they might need to do what you plan to or pay a professional sitter to come in. Like myself, there’s professional sitters on THS who do paid sits too. Obviously that’s not ideal having paid for a membership, but at a time like this, some might have to do it. Good luck x
