Boat housesit

We would like to do a housesit on a narrow boat. I have tried searching boat but nothing comes up. Is there a special THS for this?

No, the search box is for a location, nothing else.

If it’s the UK, the easiest thing is to zoom in on the map, where canals are, and see if any boats appear.

Check out the below who mentioned Skipton, UK

There are similar sits, on boats, on very small island communities connected to land by boat etc. Just have to look. As it isn’t a separate search-criteria I’d siggest put in som effort identifying those sits and favorite them, so you’ll get notifications when new dates are published.

I know this is an older thread but I just stumbled across a listing titled " Fabulous boat and dog-sit in the heart of Bristol!". They live on a 3 bedroom Dutch barge with 1 dog, in central Bristol, dates are August 14 -22.

I have definitely seen sits on house boats/barges but there bus no way of searching specifically for them unfortunately.

Do you think that having some kind of search filter for house boats/barges would be useful? I’d be interested to hear what our Forum members think!

A search filter for only house boats might be a bit limiting but maybe a category for ‘unusual’, ‘quirky’, or something asking those lines would be useful. I’m always on the lookout for something other than the norm.
Examples:
House boats
Converted windmills/barns
Off grid
Tiny homes
Yachts
Treehouse

That’s a really interesting idea @anon55123711 - I’ll feed that back to the team

Thank you. Personally I’m not the least bit interested in high spec, luxurious, homes so even if it just eliminated those from my search it would be great.

We would use a filter for “Unique “ stays if it were available.

I have seen listings for stays in converted Oast houses , a former Convent, a School house, an old post office, a water mill, canal and house boats .

Does anyone need a pet sitter for their yacht or sailboat?

I have seen listings for sits on boats in California (San Francisco area, San Rafael, Sausalito). You can browse and favorite listings so that you will be notified when new dates are added.

‘Not-a-norm’ category …

No but try Seattle! They have an entire neighborhood that live on boats.

We did a wonderful sit on a float home in Seattle. We have owned and lived on sailboats in the past so an easy transition for us. Definitely a case of a learning curve for sitters without on water experience. In my 30 years of experience with boats almost all vessels have some system broken or in need of special care. Using the head(toilet) propane safety are two considerations. Being on the water is great but it can be a steep learning curve especially without the skipper aboard.

Air BNB lets you search for various ‘quirky’ settings I think. I’ve not used Air BNB since Jan 22 when I needed places at the beginning of 6 weeks of Australia sits so I don’t know the various categories except from their occasional TV commercials.
