Booking in advance of sit

How early should I list my sit? We will be traveling for 2 weeks in June 2026. We have our trip arrangements made but have yet to book our airfare. Should I wait to list my sit?

It’s up to you really. Not too early for June dates, but a lot of sitters will want you to have locked in your flights before asking them to commit to their own travel. I’d post it & get booking (or holding) some flights. If it’s popular & an appealing listing then you may get applications in a day or so. Two weeks is a nice length sit. Where are you located? #tryyourluck

We arranged for sitters over 2 periods in June 2026. We did not have flights booked when we posted the sits. We were upfront that we were hunting airfares and did not expect the airlines to get real until March. Neither sitter had an objection. Both sitters are very experienced and well regarded based on reviews.

No applicants have ever expressed any objection but there’s no way we can know why the rare applicants withdraw after a video chat. So maybe.

Same, airfare is usually the last thing I book but I do look at available flights and times, so I can post the listing with firm dates. I usually tell the sitter when we plan to purchase airfare (and it’s usually well ahead of the sit) and update them when we do.

For an upcoming April sit, we just purchased our airfare two weeks ago, but confirmed the sit last November.

@mheller I’d do it now. We just posted dates for July and August. :slight_smile:

@mheller, we’d agree with @Cuttlefish.
FYI, we’re full-time sitters and - with one modest gap period - we’re fully booked until mid June.
