Calendar - marking unavailable

I’m new to the forum but have been pet sitting for six months. Is there any way to mark dates that I am NOT available to sit due to personal travel, etc? There is an archived discussion from Aug 2021 re: marking dates unavailable but I could not find any way to modify my dates. I’m fortunate to have people reaching out to me to sit, but I will be traveling for six weeks and unable to sit. Any assistance is much appreciated. Thank you!

The calendar is useless and has been discussed time and time again here on the forum. If you have sits booked through THS they’ll automatically be marked up in the calendar. There is no way to mark up when you’re unavailable for any other reason. Most of us sitters have even forgotten there is a calendar. If owners are checking our calendars for availability they’re wasting their time.

The calendar Defaults to unavailable- white

Theres a function to add the dates that you are available- green -

Most sitters don’t use the calendar function because you can’t indicate the location you want to sit next to the dates .

Also hosts don’t understand what the colours mean because there is no key next to the calendar .

This is how it apparently is supposed to work on the webpage you put in the dates that you are available and it shows as green -

To update your availability via the website:

  • Log into your account
  • Click on your profile photo in the top right-hand corner and select ‘Your profile’
  • Scroll down and next to ‘Availability’, select ‘Edit’
  • Click ‘Add a new date’
  • Here you can add a start & end date to when you are available to sit
  • Select ‘Save & close’; this will save your available dates to your profile
  • You can edit or delete these dates at any point

Thanks. That’s what I’ve found. I’ve had numerous invitations from people looking for a sitter at a time when I am on a transatlantic cruise. Maybe the additional fees that are going to be charged will be used to upgrade functionality.

Put it into your profile that you don’t accept invitations.

Similar to @BonnyinBrighton (because I do sometimes accept unsolicited invites), I’ve taken to noting at the top of my profile that I’ll be traveling/unavailable for certain months.

@GypsyGirl You’re joking, right? Booking fee$ to be u$ed for fixing feature$ that would help the HO-sitter experience?

@GypsyGirl I love your positivity about THS fixing their useless calendar, just don’t hold your breath  The extra funds are being spent on multiple check boxes instead.

I admit the platform is cumbersome, but, I’m so glad to have found it! It literally has changed my life!

I don’t have a problem accepting invitations. But I don’t want to waste someone’s time if I’m not available.

Welcome @GypsyGirl It sounds like you discovered the calendar, but that’s a purely decorative item, like a throw pillow. It’s been confidently wrong since 2016, or maybe longer, and despite years of us begging THS to fix or remove it, it’s still going strong. But hey, we’ve got shiny new sit badges and stickers now, so clearly priorities are in order. Honestly, maybe it’s for the best they haven’t “fixed” it, it’s hard to make something worse when it’s already pretty bad. Best to admire it briefly, then tell the host your real availability dates, like a normal person :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

It’s a bit like a collander… famous for the number of holes in it! Except a collander has its useful moments lol.

I am also with MindmyHouse.

They have introduced a new calendar system.

In less than 5 minutes I crossed out all the individual dates that I am not available for the rest of the year.

It wasn’t rocket science
