Can I ask host to change cleaning day or hour for cleaners?

Hi y’all! We’re about to start a sit where the cleaner is coming in during our last day early, a little too early considering the sit is super short and I want to ask if the HO can ask the cleaner to come closer to our departure time as it will eat up our time in a home during an already super short 2.5 day sit.

Is this allowed? Ty!

You need to put yourself in the cleaner’s shoes. He/she runs a business and no doubt has a busy diary.
You will be asking the HO to ask the cleaner at very short notice to reorganise their diary which may mean inconveniencing their other clients.
I wouldn’t ask

No harm in asking. If the cleaning service is a business, then they can probably accommodate your request. If the cleaning service is a one-(wo)man band, then the answer will probably be no since the cleaner will have other commitments and it will be too much hassle to juggle everything around.

Personally, I would view the cleaner’s arrival as a win-win since I wouldn’t be obliged to clean the house on arrival. I’d just take the pet out for a walk/do some more exploring without the pet.

I would love for every PP to have a professional cleaner on the morning of my departure. You hit the jackpot. How would that disturb your time there?
You can have everything packed up before they arrive. Either go sightseeing, out to breakfast or hang out in the year. How long can they take, not very long. Three hours the most and depending on the size of the house and how many cleaners there are it could take half that time.

Hang out in the yard not year

You can certainly ask. It sounds like this is more of an ‘annoyance’ than a true inconvenience–such as having a work call scheduled and not wanting to be disturbed–so if it were me, I probably wouldn’t inquire about changing the time on a one-off visit the day I am scheduled to leave.

I get what you are saying though.

If it were a matter of a longer term sit where the cleaner would be making multiple visits at a time that was not convenient for some reason, then I might consider asking if it is possible to change it.

Ultimately there is no right or wrong answer. The worst that can happen is they will say it isn’t possible.

You can ask if you want to. For me it would be such a great win to have a professional cleaner doing it instead of me. Which could also be the outcome. To accommodate your needs they could cancel the cleaner and you can do the cleaning at your convenience.

I used to own a cleaning business, you need to work around what suits their business, not your pleasure/leisure time.

You can always ask, but you run the risk of the hosts using their initiative and cancelling the cleaner automatically, and you having to do the cleaning yourself instead, so I wouldn’t risk it personally if you want the cleaning done for you.

You aren’t “allowed” to make the home owner do anything. It’s their home! But you could certainly ask if it’s possible for the homeowner to make a different arrangement. However, it sounds like it’s probably too late for the cleaner to change times. This sounds more like a lesson learned. Next time if a cleaner is mentioned, maybe have the discussion with the HO about how that works and when the cleaner will be coming.

We have learned to make the most of cleaners coming by going out when they are there and leaving the pets at home .

We always check with hosts first and we’ve found that most often the owners are happy with this and they do the same . The cleaner can get on without us being in the way . The pets have company. We can enjoy some sightseeing further afield or a lunch out .

Having a cleaner coming on the last day is definitely a bonus for us . For a short stay ( 2.5 days )you won’t have much to pack up and no cleaning to do .
