Cancelled a day before by HO. Just venting

The recent flight cancellations will be impacting some sitters/HOs due to the Middle East conflict. It’s a worrying time for everyone who travels….

Our hosts are currently in the Middle East due home next week and we are due at another sit. It’s a worrying time.

Glad it’s all sorted but perhaps a cautionary tale about having a plan B. Especially if you are sitting out of country. The Dubai airline hub is a main conduit for Australia, New Zealand , Thailand and many other places and it’s closed today. There are work arounds but there will be chaos for sometime. Stay safe everyone.

We recently did a sit where the HO asked us to stay an extra day to avoid the anticipated worse storm day, so we cancelled our ABNB since we couldn’t change the dates and agreed to stay extra day. Then they decided to come home 2 days early…we were able to find a last minute dingy hotel room. We just figure this is the way it goes, probably we should upgrade to cover the cost but this doesn’t happen very often, sure is annoying when it does!

We have used the Sit cancellation plan that comes with Premium when a sit was curtailed and made a successful claim -

However be aware that any x1 day/night alternative accommodation sit cancellation claims will be declined, due to the contribution fee of $150 USD which is deducted from each claim

I agree with Silversitters. I would join the premium. I actually got an upgrade at 1/2 the cost (upgrade cost) when they offered for exactly this reason. Minus of course the 1 day thing. But in your situation, it a good alternative and we are living in very tentative times and plans may change on a dime right now. So it’s a fairly reasonable fee for the upgrade. I do wish, in this situation, that the HO would take all of this into consideration and at least offer to cover the cost of a hotel or motel for you for a night or two. Seems reasonable. I wish you well and sounds like it was resolved but do consider an upgrade in these times! you may need it again.
