I know a woman in the Czech Republic whose cat recently returned after some years. Just checked–it was 10 years (!) and a vet scanned the microchip. Guess they hadn’t moved or changed their # anyway.

This weekend there was a story of a dog that disappeared 7 years ago and was found because it was chipped. The original owner wondered Where the dog had been in the meantime.
It was reported stolen, as the dog had been in care at a family and the owner suspected they had taken and/ or sold the dog, and the owner had searched for the dog for a long time. They have now found the family where the dog had stayed all these years. They had bought the dog from the man that cared for the dog so he had indeed sold someone elses dog.
