Concern about THS verification processes and enforcement of their rules

The point the police made is without a clear profile photo it is not possible to know whether the person you video chat with is the same as the sitter profile, or if it is a fake or stolen identity.

While I don’t disagree that homeowners have risks that are different from/additional to sitters, I still bristle when people diminish risks to sitters which is what you are doing. And they are so blatently dismissed by THS that hosts don’t undergo any background check or verifications. Me, since I live in the paranoid US, I have to give my SS # and risk identity theft. Folks in other countries do not.

The examples I gave were extreme. Let me give some more. Have you ever met a creepy guy? Even one with a wife? Gotten pinched or groped? Had a personal demonstration of something that should stay private? Or unknowingly given a show with hidden cameras? Found out the smoke and carbon detectors don’t work the hard way? Been bitten by the sweet little dog? etc. Sitters take risks. That fact does not diminish the risks of homeowners. Although I realize in our material world someone’s large flat screen TV rates more important than personal safety.

If you don’t want anyone to diminish your risks, don’t do that to others. The OP posted a disturbing situation that is their reality and you felt it necessary to chime in with ‘Me Too’ using a ridiculous example that has never happened.

Perhaps turn off Law and Order and show some empathy for the OP would be a better path.

This isn’t about you or sitters in general. It’s about a host who was taken advantage of by a deceptive sitter. If you think the risks to sitters are as great as they are to hosts (no way it’s not even close) then start a different thread expressing your concerns.

Ya know, I came here to say, we disagree and leave it at that. I am not out to prove anything, just looking for respect. I have many, many times shown empathy with homeowners. I happen to be one too although I ended my THS membership as a pet parent to economize. Then I found your antagonistic message. My words for you need to be censored. Clearly I struck a nerve. Have a happy New Year fellow member of the THS community.

I don’t realize I’m doing it until someone points it out to me.

I am dismayed at THS for a couple of reasons:

  1. They have classified this issue here in this forum as solved yet they have solved nothing.
  2. I have provided them with irrefutable evidence that the sitter had constant guests in and out of the house, purposefully blocked the doorbell camera, admitted in the portal that she had and would continue to have guests and does this all of the time in the houses she sits, that she is from Silver Springs, MD while claiming to be from Brazil, is using a phone number not registered to her or a person, etc. etc. etc. They claim they are investigating the case yet the sitter has been allowed to post a completely fabricated review of me for which it is impossible for her to provide evidence.

Can’t believe the lack of follow through and concern for future homeowners as well as service for a long time homeowner member. Really disappointing.

I’m sure you probably already done this but have you sent them the police report?

You should at least reply to the review and state there is proof of multiple unauthorized guests (as in a large party), tampering with exterior cameras, and police had to be called to remove the sitter. To warn other HO who may be considering this sitter as In sure she’s trying to find something for NYE.

Please note that if you only provide the “profile photo” as your face photo, the size of a photo we see is a thumbnail. If you want to share your face (which I would appreciate), include it in the photos of house/pet.

We do have one with us and our dog together getting a ribbon for an obedience title :slight_smile:

I have one glowing review praising me, and then the host wrote to me a week later about everything I had done wrong (apparently). They said “we did not want to leave a bad review to harm your THS changes”. So there is really no way of knowing if something went wrong, and even great reviews might be lies (in the perspective of this host - I mean among a lot of self-created issues, they claimed I had stolen a single plate, which I probably did misplace but had no interest in stealing…)

They did not have 52 guests. The HO had 52 signals from their doorbell camera. Could be one person.

Also the repeat sit, the previous one was in a different house (I have seen the original profile). So no, no casing.

As THS provides as a service the access to the platform, they will need to have VERY strong reason to remove anyone. So of course they do it as little as possible. I´m sorry you had to experience that.

The OP has reviewed the video tapes. They speak of way fewer people. So no, it could not be 52.

I NEVER said there were 52 people. I said after being alerted to an issue on the second day, I looked at activity from the first day and there were 52 activities which was more than I wanted to go through. I did not send them all 52 activities, I only sent them select activities from the second day. I am happy to send all 52 from the first day if they want to take their time to review them.

I have not been notified of the status of this investigation even though it says it is solved?

THS forum moderator is just using “Solved” to draw attention to the fact the case is being investigated by THS. You’d hear about an actual resolution from THS directly, which I’m sure takes time but hopefully is forthcoming.
