Confusing "Overseas" Disclaimer

Being a citizen of a Schengen country I just confirmed a sit in Spain - but I get the disclaimer “This sit will take place overseas”. This is just wrong!

I would appreciate if the THS platform would recognise that it is used worldwide (not just in the US and UK) and adapt its logic so that overseas really IS overseas. Yes, this would mean a little more effort in software development, but it would leave a much more professional impression.

It happens to me sometimes too. I dont know why… I have two sits in Amsterdam one night apart, one of them gave the warning, the other one not… It´s random. Lower expectations is the key.

Just covering their butts for all options. If this bugs you wait until you experience some of the other joys

@MJS, on your Schengen travels then please tell people about THS. Would be great to increase the number of listings in Schengen area - we’d love it if THS increased the referral reward (e.g. more months) for new customers in Schengen area (or anywhere other than high-listing countries such as US and UK) :innocent: Enjoy!

We are on a long sit near Perth, Australia and we recently confirmed another sit here in Perth. Before we could confirm we received the message about our ‘International sit’; that we should confirm we are only travelling as tourists and to check visas etc etc (I don’t remember the exact wording) but the point is this message is completely irrelevant as our location is currently listed as Perth, Australia and we’re only travelling 80km up the coast by car!:flushed_face::roll_eyes:

It doesn’t exactly fill you with confidence does it @Lockstar.
It was only a few months ago you could download a letter to give to border control.

THS has got itself in a muddle of it’s own making, by flipping it’s posture on international sits. Previously, we had ‘here’s a letter, show it to border personnel and now it’s ‘as a tourist you sit at your own risk as it may infringe your visa conditions. They haven’t recognised that holders of a passport of a country in the Schengen Zone have 2 critical freedoms. These are freedom of movement and freedom of labour. If, for example, has an Irish passport then that person can move unimpeded within the Schengen Zone, without border checks and visas. I suspect that the # of members of THS who are Schengen passport holders is low and not worth the effort of confirming and clarifying their status.

More work to program in a check for “is the sit in a Schengen zone country & if so, does sitter also reside in a country that’s part of the Schengen zone?” than just programming “send a generic message if the sitter & hosts’ home countries don’t match.”

Since it was probably done at the behest of their lawyers, I’m guessing it was something of a “just get ‘er done” effort. (But to be fair, just a WAG on my part.)

Thanks for your feedback @MJS - I have passed it over to the team.

If I hear anything back, I’ll let you know
