So far, there’s only one U.S. T&T, but more are coming:
If you’re sitting in the U.S. Northeast or Mid-Atlantic, there’s a grocery store chain — Wegmans — that’s hugely popular with Americans, so much so that they line up for its grand openings and lobby the chain to open near them.
My husband and I used to live on the East Coast and one of our places was five minutes away from one. Loved it and there are still items we miss from there. It’s family owned and run terrifically, with great selections.
It is the best we are lucky enough to have two within a 20 minute drive in NC.
We travel from sit to sit for a couple of months on overseas holidays with a hire car. As soon as we get the car we set up our travelling wardrobe in the back with our extra Jackets, hats, sunscreen etc and we find a good solid box from a supermarket to make our “larder”. We buy a selection of spices we regularly use and some stock supplies like ruined tomatoes, pasta, rice and chick peas. We knew we can put together a meal from those in a pinch but then we supplement with fresh produce - veges, fruit and meat - as we go. I love to cook with local foods but i am an everyday cook who always cooks from scratch anyway. This trip I found a sourdough starter in the fridge so I’ve been able to continue my usual practise of home made bread, pizza, focaccia and pastry while we travel. (Obviously we are not in Italy or France because there is plenty of delicious bread product there already!)
We don’t own a car and cross borders often so food is difficult. But we do carry an oven thermometer since some ovens are way off. Also after a few experiences with sour milk we carry a small pocket dial thermometer for the fridge. Also some very fine sandpaper 400 or 600 grit to sharpen at least one knife. I will usually dull it before leaving since my sister in law cut herself with a knife I sharpened.
Just did my first Sprouts shop today on a sit, and felt like I was in heaven! So many delicious meals that require very little prep and are far less expensive than eating at a restaurant. Thanks for the great suggestion!
