I did my best to find a grocery list so if this is a repeat, pls msg me a link to an already established topic.
I need a grocery list. I’m staying local for now with my sits to dial in my packing, food, etc needs.
Health groceries please?
Thanks!
Just buy what you want to eat? I’m confused by your question. Such a list would vary a lot based on location, diet, personal preferences, etc. I don’t think there’s such thing as a universal grocery list.
sort of the “just in case” cannot find at a local grocery store.
Oh, just some staples more experienced sitters maintain.
again, not a universal list. most sitters don’t travel with food, they buy things when they arrive. and things some people consider staples, others don’t. like I see many people recommending that HOs/Sitters stock the kitchen with “staples” before leaving of bread, milk, fruit, granola, etc. All of that would be wasted on me as I eat none of it. Just make a list of things you like and buy what is available in your area.
One thing I do travel with is spices though as they’re not bulky and can be annoying to replace. I bring garam masala, cumin, tumeric, salt, pepper, and garlic powder everywhere. With that I can cook many dishes. I also travel with good tea because bagged tea is crap.
I need to buy groceries b4 I go to my next couple sits due to their being secluded far up the mountains. It’s a good question and hope to hear from others!
I’d do some research on menu planning. Plan what you want to cook for the time you’ll be there and then make a list of the ingredients you’ll need. Keeping in mind what’s available in the local area as it varies a lot by region.
Which country is it in? How long is the sit? What has the HO said they will leave you in the way of food? (If anything) Do you have a car or are you travelling by public transport? #needaclearersteermollsya
Hello ! It is very hard to answer your question since you don’t say where you are or why would you need a grocery list. Are you not accostumed to cook or travel alone? If so I can recommend websites for easy basic healthy recipes and then you pick what sounds good to you and buy those ingredients.
If it’s useful here’s a rough summary of what my gf and I might buy any given week
1 kg rice
1/2 kg quinoa
400 gr pasta
500 grams lentils
1 kg flour
800 grams chicken breast
1/2 kg pork chops
18 eggs
2 L milk
250 gr butter
1 kg carrots
1 broccoli
1 lettuce
500 grams corn
500 grams peas
1 kg tomato
Granola
Cheese or any spread to eat with bread sometimes
Coffee and tea
Does that help ?
Hi @Cuttlefish! Thanks for reaching out. The first is 4 days, the 2nd is 12. It’s difficult to get down the mountain. Above boulder Colorado in the Rockies. They say I have anything that’s there. Super chill family.
Totally helpful! Thank you for your time!
Thank you, you’ll see in my most recent reply… Rocky mountains. I am not used to traveling alone. These will be my very first sits.
It’s funny, ya’ll say it’s a hard question then you answer it! haha!
Well everyone is answering because you have asked for advice and they are trying to help you. I think that is nice don’t you? @Viajante I could have written that list myself, almost identical to what I buy I also buy bulk frozen vegetables as I don’t eat a lot of meat.
Thank you all for your help!
Wine and chocolate
Thank you!
That depends on the length of the sit and any freezer room.
To @mollsyA It’s worth asking the pet parents if there is any space in the freezer, if you feel you could make use of it. We’re currently on a 5 week sit and there’s not enough room in the freezer for a single pack of peas! We generally don’t buy much frozen stuff anyway but it’s nice to have the option to freeze portions when we cook a meal.
@Happypets oh yes, definitely, I do ask or look first about freezer space before buying. I just find the frozen mixed vegetables so versatile and I cook some great things with them.
As others have said, it’s difficult to answer your question without knowing what you like to eat. I do carry certain dry foods with me, such as spices, granola, oats and oil. On my way to a sit I’ll pick up milk, bread (if the ho hasn’t said they will), eggs, butter, fruit, berries, salad stuff, veggies and salmon fillets. I might also have picked a recipe and bought the ingredients for that to make a few portions. After a couple of days I will then go and buy whatever else I need for recipes. If you’re nowhere near a supermarket then you’ll have to plan a few meals and maybe cheat with some ready meals
