Cover picture strange choices

Who knows what goes through some people’s minds  Also, I think many people don’t realise that their listing has a cover photo in the first place, and that it will automatically be the first one they upload unless they change it. Very few people take a few moments to actually click ‘view listing preview’ and understand what their listing looks like to others, then proofread & edit.

I can’t be doing with photos taken at jaunty angles.

…and let’s make fisheye lenses universally illegal for home photos!:camera_flash:

…and let’s make fisheye lenses universally illegal for home photos!

ESPECIALLY for real estate photos. I digress, but – insert long rant.

I saw one a few years ago which was total clutter, kitchen, living room, everywhere, every space taken up with clutter. She was honest enough to say that that is how she lived and that others may not like it. I don’t know whether she got a sitter but I haven’t seen the listing since.

Oh dear. If the home was so badly cluttered and possibly be a hoarding situation, it may have been reported and removed from the site if the home could not provide adequate living conditions for a sitter (which breaches the T’s & C’s).

People can live however they want, but when they invite sitters to stay, they’re participating in an exchange with minimum standards of livability, including cleanliness and tidiness. It’s not on to say, come stay at my pig sty or dump, because that’s how I live. Or to misrepresent a sty or dump as a livable home for sitters.

it’s not only cover pictures that baffle me, but some of the titles too.

Mr and Mrs Bloggs, or whatever. A recent one had only the woman’s name as the title.

I just saw one titled… drum roll… :drum:

“April.”

:woman_facepalming:t3::rofl:

Edit: Ooh no, it also has 1 sentence for each section :sob: nooo people come on :sob::sob:

I saw a title that said
“I don’t know what to put here “

5 bed house by the seaside so why put an ironing board and washing machine as 1st photo followed by toilet?

I think about this when I see Irish sits, but having lived in Ireland 3 years I can say, taking a picture when the weather is sunny and dry would be totally misleading!! Those days are a tiny minority!

I noticed one recently which showed, in the first pic, a small hallway floor. Just a small patch of flooring, with the bottom half of closed doors to either side.

Why?

@RedLassie or the ones which state in the title: Sitter needed…

Just saw one with the title “I’m a lady living alone.”
Cover photo is stairs. All the photos are the same few, repeated 2 - 3 times each.

Sigh.

Love the title. Perhaps it was meant for a dating app. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I do think that THS encourage giving more personal information than most owners or sitters are interested in.

@Happypets The system is set to fit landscape photo layout. It will crop one that’s a portrait layout, usually to just square off the centre of the photo. In fairness to TrustedHousesitters, I think the instructions do mention that.

I think I saw the same photo you mention, or another like it.

The ones that bother me are portrait ones of a dog, where their head is often cut off. :see_no_evil_monkey: :anxious_face_with_sweat:

Am I the only one that prefers a photo of their pet as the cover?
Pet first, house & location second?
Also be more specific about the location like what neighbourhood especially in big cities

No, you are not alone.
Pet pictures are my favorite covers and what makes me open the listing and read the info.

I get sucked in right away if the lead photo is of a fantastic view from the home. Otherwise the pets are the thing that get me to stop scrolling, especially if they’re looking right at you and are happy!:grinning_cat:
